2 column problem

the columns are stacked on top of each other. I am using the default Yahoo WP activation, have not modified the theme code at all. Did modify the default-filters.php to fix the the wptexturize error I was having from the ‘x’ in my domain name.

Could that be casuing the column issue?

UPDATE: looks like the problem is only with the index page. the About page is just fine.
