    Hi Igor,

I am not being awarded extra entries for referring the giveaway.
I place the number 10, in the referral field. And I still dont get any extra entries when I pin the giveaway on Pinterest.

    Please advise.

I will send you an email with the screen shots.

    Thanks.

    Never mind. I am silly.
I totally forgot how the referral system works…
Closing, nothing to see here. ๐Ÿ™‚

Having the same issue on http://giveaway.bravotheater.com/giveaway/red/. Not sure why referral entries not added.

    Hi etaleysn,

can you confirm that you have subscribed with another email through the shared link?

The entries will get updated only if someone else subscribes from the shared link. Otherwise anyone could just click on each link mumtiple times to cet more entries.

Thank you, Igor. I’m most likely confused how referral system works. Shared landing page with users http://giveaway.bravotheater.com/giveaway/red and expectation was that entering email will count as 1 point. After that sharing on FB, GOOGLE+, etc will earn extra point for that user. System should be able to track entries by user/social network to prevent duplicate records. Please, correct.

    Hi @etalesyn,

    the basic workflow is:
    1. You have a giveaway, your goal is to give something back to your audience and grow your email list in return
    2. A visitor subscribes to your giveaway
    3. In order to have higher chance of winning, he/she must get you more subscribers
    4. He/She can do that by sharing links so people can subscribe to it.

Be it a social media or just pasting the link (which is there) in an email to their own followers does nothing if that link does not get you new subscribers. That is how the entry point works because it is referring other people to your giveaway.

A user could share the link to a social media (in order to get a free entry point) and after that delete it. Facebook or any other social media won’t notify your giveaway that a user has removed that link.

Another issue that can happen is that a user uses a different email to subscribe and a different for social media which again can be difficult or even impossible to track.

I don’t have anything to correct here since it is working as expected ๐Ÿ™‚

But I do have the plan to allow Facebook Like or Twitter Follow as another option. If I succeed in providing this, I might work on the complex system as a new option. That might happen in a near future but not so soon as I have other features to implement.

Thank you for considering using this plugin ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for detailed explanation. It makes sense now.

    You’re welcome! ๐Ÿ™‚

I am working on improving the plugin as much as possible, so feedback like this is much appreciated ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hello Igor,

We have been using your plugin; however, I was a bit unclear about how entry points are earned.

I thought that an entrant who simply pasted a link on a social media page (or tweeted a link) was rewarded for taking that action, I did not realize that their link had to generate a new contest entrant to earn points. (this is fine)

That clarification would be helpful to include in the documentation so that plugin users understand how to properly represent what is required for entrants to earn extra points.

It could be a cool feature to reward entrants for simply taking the action of posting their links on social media (similar to how like counters work). Users might be awarded lower points (configured in setup) for pasted links and tweets and more points (configured in setup) when a link generates a new contest entrant. I realize the potential for fraud when points are awarded simply for pasting links so perhaps to prevent that, when a contest ends a script like a broken link checker script could run to verify that pasted links are still active. For links found to be broken then entry points for each broken link can be deducted. If the pasted links are still live, then earned points remain. The winner selection process would run after this verification step (if you add a feature allowing points to be earned for pasted links and tweets).

Thanks for your continued improvement of the best contest plugin I have found.

    Sincerely,
    Phil D

I guess I should add it also to the FAQ section since it might be a confusion. I think I will also add a small text above (or below) the link section so people using it will also know how it works.

It might be a fun feature to add, but I can’t track where people are sharing them and then check on them. As I said, I will see to implement the Like/Follow feature in a near future.

I am really glad you like it and think of it like that Phil D. Really appreciate it!
