Hi,
We are not sure why this https://billbennett.co.nz/type/aside/ gets redirected to your homepage when Yoast is active. We do know we are not able to reproduce it on our test sites. Format Type Archive pages load as expected: https://pasteboard.co/GTFsrL3.png
We would like some more information.
1. If you clear all your caching from your plugin, theme, server, browser, or CDN such as Cloudflare, does the issue resolve? If you are not sure how to clear your server caching, please speak with your host provider. This guide explains more about how to clear browser caching: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-clear-my-browsers-cache/.
2. Can you confirm your server is correctly configured as it looks like the redirect is coming from there. See image: https://pasteboard.co/GTFt7W5.png
Thanks Pat
I contacted Yoast after discussing this with the hosting company. I’m hosted at Pressable, which is a managed host and has a higher than normal level of support.
Pressable support loaded the site onto a separate staging host and could reproduce the problem. However, I have a staging version of my site that doesn’t have the problem. Go figure.
It’s been a tough one to troubleshoot my end because, as you point out, there are multiple caches. But the support engineer used a vanilla host with no caching.
I should also point out the problem arises if I use an external crawler to check pages. If I load the root URL into, say, https://www.internetmarketingninjas.com/seo-tools/google-sitemap-generator/index.php
It finds the error.
One aspect of this that has me scratching my head is that it is a 301 redirect and not a 404 error. I suspect that’s a clue.
This is Mike from Pressable support. I was digging into this further on the staging site which has no caching, and literally the only thing that fixes the issue is disabling the Yoast SEO plugin.
I have just finished testing by disabling ALL plugins and leaving only Yoast SEO active, yet still the redirect persists. Also tested other themes with no luck. As Bill mentioned, I don’t see this being a platform issue since he does have a staging site created previously that does not have this issue.
This has me scratching my head over here as well.
I should make a correction to my previous statement. Staging sites do have Object caching but no page caching.
Have also noticed that if I set the
Taxonomy to show in breadcrumbs for post types to Format, then the breadcrumb link on the page doesn’t show the format, it’s just
home >> page title
Also the dropdown menu on the next line, Post type archive to show in breadcrumbs for taxonomies doesn’t have any options, it is set to none.
If you didn’t find any conflicts, errors or issue with the cache, we think the issue is specific to your site. We’d need to investigate further but are unable to do so on these forums. You can purchase Yoast SEO Premium and receive our Premium email support and we can help you further.
we think the issue is specific to your site
Quite possibly. Although it’s remarkable how uninterested you appear to be in what appears to be a problem with your plug-in. I accept it may be obscure, but I’d at least expect to see some attempt on your behalf to understand what is happening.
Unfortunately, we are unable to confirm exactly why you’re experiencing this redirect issue while the Yoast SEO plugin is active unless we take a deeper look at your setup. However, we’ve already tested the provided URL https://billbennett.co.nz/type/aside/ on our end and we couldn’t find anything that could cause this issue. So, without taking a look at your setup, it’s hard to fix the issue or provide any possible solution.
