Images not displaying in grid

I downloaded and used this plugin for a client and it worked beautifully. I downloaded it to two of my sites and I can’t get the images to display. I don’t need anything special, just the featured images. But it won’t display any images, rather it is blank but there is enough white space to assume that it has created the structure of the grid but isn’t fetching the photos.
Doesn’t it display featured image by default? Or is there a setting to use the featured image (I can’t find it).

UPDATE: I deactivated all plugins again, and found some inconsistencies:
Both of my sites would not display any grid images when Jetpack was activated.
In one site your plugin conflicts also with Explanatory Dictionary. It works just fine without that plugin and I can change that plugin to another.
My other site is presenting another problem. When I deactivate all plugins except yours the photos and grid displays but there is no overlay and the images aren’t clickable (the source of those grids is all posts). There are no plugins that appear to conflict except Jetpack. When Jetpack is activated the images will appear, but they aren’t clickable.
It doesn’t make sense to see different results on the two sites when everything is deactivated except your plugin, but that is the case.
