• For some reason the blog on my sonse website just stopped working. We hadn’t posted to it or updated the site for a few days prior to it stopping. Now all we get is an error (The website cannot display the page HTTP 500).

In looking through the blog subdomain on the site, all the files seem to be there, but it won’t pull up the Blog.

Any help would be appreciated as we are new to this and were using Word Press becuase it was so easy, until now.

  • A 500 error doesn’t really tell us a lot…it’s just a general error saying there is a problem on the webserver somewhere.

Do you have a link? What version of WP are you using? Did you upgrade recently? Install any plugins recently?

The site is http://JoesPlace.org and on the bottom of the main page it has a ling to the Blog (Joe’s Blog) that used to open the Blog and we could acess it there. Then, this weekend it started to give the generic 500 error. And now, since the original posting, it now goes straight to the Word Press installation process.

I don’t get it, we have not done anything to the site to affect this portion of it and the rest of the site remains unaffected.

I believe it is version 2.6, but since I can’ get in, I can only go off of my recollection.

your options table is crashed. repair it in phpmyadmin.

I also contacted Verizon (our site is hosted by them) to see if there is anything going on at their end of things. They saw the same problem and said that there seems to be a problem with the index page and that it comes up as missing or blank.

We don’t mess with any of the settings on the Blog and only post to it, so I don’t understand how it could get messed up.

In looking through the “folder” on the server, I can see the pictures and such from the posts, but I am not familiar enough with the file structure to see the actual posts.

I would really like to get the Blog back up and running, but I don’t want to obliterate anything by just reinstalling.

I am not familiar with phpmyadmin, is there any kind of user guide for this kind of problem to walk me though it?

    Ask and ye shall receive.

well first, does verizon use some sort of control panel? hosts that have some sort of control panel usually have phpmyadmin available. find that out first.

btw, the possibility also exists that your host somehow obliterated your tables. you can find that out by using the install script that is currently showing up for your site. if it errors, the tables are still there, and im right about the options table — if it installs, theyre gone.

OK, I have not been able to get to much of anything as it comes back to the install page when trying to get to anything else.

Verizon dos have a way of looking at the files (FTP) and some features, but I did not see an applet that gave me access to phpmyadmin. I will go back and try. If I have to reload, is there a file (or setof files I should pull back off of the serever that have our posts? I don’t want to lose them.

LenK, your guide is great, but I cannot get to the login, is there a special trick to get to it. I don’t even see a phpmyadmin listed in the file structure anywhere.

…I should pull back off of the serever that have our posts? I don’t want to lose them.

if you dont have phpmyadmin avaialble, you MAY be able to do your own phpmyadmin install and connect to your db that way.

If you cant do that, then your pretty much at the mercy of asking someone there to restore the old tables.. but IF they can do that, then they can just run a repair on the corrupt options table — and that negates the necessity of a reinstall.

Your posts are stored in a database — NOT inside files that you have access to.

please read what I am writing …

His link is useless until you do as Ive written.

I spent several hours on the phone with Veriozn (the first hour an a half without any help as it seems that not too many of their help staff know you can build your own site without using thier software and just uploading it to thier server), however, when I did get someone in the hosting tech support area, I was told that they can assist restorin the file structrue of the website itself, but they don’t support things like Blogs that you add to their server (other than them adding PHP support for recognition of the files, like Front Page Extensions).

I went to Verizon’s applet for accessing and there is nothing that allows you access to phpmyadmin, you can only add support for PHP for the site.

OK, I downloaded everything from the server back to my PC from the website, which should include all of the data stored in the Blog (in theory).

Since it is looking like I cannot access the phpmyadmin, I am thinking it might be worth while to try to do the install again as it is asking for now. The only holdback I have is how this came to be in the first place, I don’t want to do it ovr and over again if something in thee is messed up.
