    Hi,

When I am trying to view my sitemap within the “XML Sitemaps” tab by clicking on “You can find your XML Sitemap here”, I keep obtaining this error:

    XML Parsing Error: syntax error
    Location: http://www.issquaredinc.com/main-sitemap.xsl
    Line Number 1, Column 50:

    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC “-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN”>
    ————————————————-^

I think the problem is merely closing the html tag, but I am unsure how I could do that.

    Thank you for any help!

  • Are you running any cache plugins on your website? If so, please make sure you’ve excluded XML sitemaps as well as XSL stylesheets from caching. Refer to this KB article for more information: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/my-sitemap-is-blank-what-s-wrong/ If you are unsure how to check this, you’ll need to contact the cache plugin developer for support. They’ll be the best place to assist you.

    Hi monbauza,

Thank you for your reply. I disabled my caching plugin but the same error persists:

    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC “-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN”>
    —————————————————————————-^

Any additional help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

We are not sure why that error is happening. We ask for a conflict check as sometimes strange behavior may be caused by a plugin or theme conflict which then results in that behavior. The fastest way to rule out conflicts is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Seventeen ( https://wordpress.org/themes/twentyseventeen/ ).

If this resolves the issue, you have a conflict and should activate one plugin at a time until you locate the conflict. Finally, after all plugins are active, switch to your theme. This will narrow down the conflict to a specific plugin or theme.

If you are unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we wrote a small guide that will walk you through the steps. This guide explains more: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts.

    Hi Pcosta88,

Thank you for your reply. I disabled all other plug-ins and changed my theme to Twenty Seventeen. However, the same error persisted. Is there anything else I can try?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

We understand the issue is still happening even after clearing the cache and disabling plugins/switching themes. We suggest two actions to resolve the issue:

    A. If you have any server caching please clear that. You may need to speak with your host provider. If you use a CDN such as Cloudflare, make sure that caching is also cleared.

    B. If the issue continues, we ask that you please create an issue report for our developers on GitHub here. You may need an account to post. If you are not sure how to create an issue report, this guide explains more: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-write-a-good-bug-report/.
