When installing Wordfence on a clean install of WordPress, I’m getting the following error retrieving an API key:
There was an error connecting to the the Wordfence scanning servers: cURL error 28: Connection timed out after 10000 milliseconds

Checking WordFence > Tools > Diagnostics I see:
wp_remote_post() test to noc1.wordfence.com failed! Response was: cURL error 28: Operation timed out after 10001 milliseconds with 0 bytes received for http
    and
wp_remote_post() test to noc1.wordfence.com failed! Response was: cURL error 28: Connection timed out after 10001 milliseconds for https

This is on a new host who recently upgraded their WHM/cPanel versions. I’ve contacted support who say they’re more than happy to tinker with settings, but need to know exactly which settings to alter. Should it matter, I’m running PHP 7.0.20 – I have tried with 5.6.x with the exact same results.

Might anyone here, or the devs, have any suggestions? At this time “find a new host” isn’t an option, and I would feel much more comfortable having WordFence installed rather than not.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi @tim15465233,

Could you please check with your hosting provider if they have this type of restrictions in place?

Also, please make sure the traffic to Wordfence servers hasn’t been blocked.
