Initial category selection from edit page

Post Expirator with WordPress 4.7.3 and Divi theme
A client was creating new posts and using Post Expirator successfully. However, now when she tries to select the initial category and then update the file, the category always reverts to “Uncategorized”. (she does not know when this started) Going out to the list of posts and using “Quick Edit” allows her to set the initial category. Any updates to the post content require a reassignment of the category.
Disabling Post Expirator fixes this problem. Anyone else having a similar issue?
