    Backup Service

    Hello guys,

Is Jetpack only available in PRO version?

And in a multi-site network, does this Jetpack service back up all sites or have separate backups of each domain and subdomain?

    I thank you.

Most of Jetpack’s features and services are free. In addition to this majority of free features, Jetpack also includes paid features, through 3 different plans. The plans and their features are listed here:
    https://jetpack.com/features/comparison/

As you can see in the chart, Site Backups are only available as a Paid feature. Depending on the plan you pick, backups will happen daily, or real-time as you make changes on your site. Each plan also offers a different Backup archive: while the personal and the premium plans only store your backups for 30 days, the Professional plan allows you to keep your backups for as long as you want.

In a multisite network, to get the best experience you’ll need to purchase one plan for each site in the network. Indeed, if you were to purchase only one plan, the network’s plugins and themes would be backed up, but only the database tables of the site linked to the plan would be backed up. You can read more about it here:

I hope this clarifies things a bit. Let me know if you have more questions.

    OK Jeremy,

Are backups locked up externally on the jetpack site?
I ask, why have I already used some plugins that store backups on my own site (wp-content / backup-xyz /), and that’s no use, backing up and waiting in the same location.

And I have the option to make these backups directly to a cloud archiving itself like, Google Drive, Dropbox, …?

Another thing … does site migration (https://jetpack.com/features/security/site-restore-and-migrations/) only clone the entire site, or can I just clone a category?

For example, let’s say in my main domain, I want to migrate all posts from Category1 (mysite.com/category1) to subdomain sub1.mysite.com. So I could just copy all posts from the category mysite.com/category1 and migrate to sub1.mysite.com?

    I thank you.

The backups are stored on our own servers. Storing the backups on the site itself isn’t really something we’d want to do, as those backups could be compromised as soon as your site / server becomes compromised. Offsite backups are always better.

And I have the option to make these backups directly to a cloud archiving itself like, Google Drive, Dropbox, …?

No, we don’t offer that option. We have no storage space limit though, so you don’t really need an additional storage location, especially not one that is limited in space.

When migrating sites, you’re migrating the whole site, not just a category.

If you’d like to copy posts of a specific category from one site to another, I’d recommend using the built-in exporter tools in WordPress: they offer that option and the importer will take care of everything for you.

    I hope this helps.

In the Business Plan says that the backups are automatic. Can the Personal Plan also be automatic daily backups?

Can malware and threat scans also be automatically scheduled for a specific time, for example, at dawn where traffic is low?

And the ads generated by Jetpack are from Google Doubleclick? Can the plugin itself identify the type of subject that the page is and show relevant ads? And do these ads generate lightweight script so as not to detract from the performance of the pages?

    I thank you.

All our backups are automatic; you never need to push a button for a backup to start.

However, when using the Professional plan a new backup is triggered as soon as you make a change on your site (like publishing a post, or uploading an image).

If you use the Personal plan, the backups only happen once a day.

Can malware and threat scans also be automatically scheduled for a specific time, for example, at dawn where traffic is low?

You shouldn’t need to worry about this; the scans will not have any impact on your traffic, the load is on our servers.

the ads generated by Jetpack are from Google Doubleclick?

Jetpack Ads are served via more than 60 partners, as explained here:
    https://wordads.co/2016/10/14/google-adsense-facebook-ads-and-dozens-more-buying-from-wordads/

Google is one of those partners, but you’ll see ads from many other partners as well.

Can the plugin itself identify the type of subject that the page is and show relevant ads?

That’s indeed how the feature works. Ad partners will be different depending on the content on your site, the language you write in, the countries your readers are coming from, … When you first activate the Ads feature you’ll see generic ads for a day or two, but after a little while you’ll start seeing different ads.

do these ads generate lightweight script so as not to detract from the performance of the pages?

This will depend on the type of ads displayed on your site. Some of the ads can be videos, others will be images. However, in all cases we try to load the images asynchronously, so we do not block the display of the other elements on your site while the ads load.

    I hope this helps.
