Today I got an “api_key does not belong to an administrator of blog” error on stats.wordpress.com.

A thread on this forum suggested to deactivate/activate Jetpack and so I did. Upon reactivation I was prompted to choose which version I would want to install. I thought that was odd, but continued with the free version.

That was something I shouldn’t have done, obviously, because now I lost all history and according to the threads on this forum there’s nothing I can do to change that.

    Could somebody help me?

    This is the URL: https://solydxk.com

Note: when I first registered I was using http, but that was changed quite some time ago and this issue is very recent. I don’t think it has anything to do with it, but just in case. However, I am using a dev environment for my updated site but it’s in a VM and the Jetpack plugin is disabled in that environment.

    Jetpack Mechanic 🚀

With Jetpack, your stats information is connected to a unique blog ID. Sometimes, if a site owner was using a development site or a different address when they set up Jetpack, disconnecting may create a new blog ID. When this happens, it may appear that your stats were lost.

That’s what happened on your site; it previously used a different site URL, solydxk.com/wordpress/.

I have fixed the issue, and you should be able to get your Stats and Subscribers back by going to the Jetpack menu in your dashboard, and disconnecting / reconnecting to WordPress.com.

    Thanks!

The disconnect/reconnect procedure showed this message after which I selected the free account:

    Connect a self-hosted WordPress

We’ll be installing the Jetpack plugin so WordPress.com can connect to your self-hosted WordPress site.

It’s a bit confusing because Jetpack is already installed but still, it worked.
