Works Really GREAT!

    Update: Upgrading my rating to 5 stars. Not only does this plugin work really well (even better than I knew!), but the developer is delightfully responsive! That alone is practically worth its weight in gold! And apparently, I’ve been using it for at least six years, so that’s really saying something.

    Here’s my initial review, just to keep the flow of conversation clear.

    I love the variety of options available, and the developer seems to keep it updated on a regular, as needed, basis.

    I would love to be able to show the breadcrumbs for all the portfolio pages/posts, without having to enable them for all blog posts (what’s the point of a breadcrumb on a blog post, after all?). Hopefully, I will either find a way to do this or the developer will make that option available or easier to figure out.

    Perhaps adding the widget visibility option would work to do this, but at present there are no options for the widget (which was actually developed by someone else, and has NOT been updated in 6 years!).

    But this plugin is a real gem.

    While Breadcrumb NavXT offers many options to control its behavior, it is not responsible if it is called on a resource (page, post, etc.) that you do not want it to generate a breadcrumb trail for. The Breadcrumb NavXT FAQ covers how to restrict calling the breadcrumb trail on the front page. You just have to replace that conditional tag with the appropriate conditional tag, see: http://codex.wordpress.org/Conditional_Tags

    As a heads up on the widget, the third party widget has not been updated in 6 years because it was made redundant/obsolete when I included a widget in Breadcrumb NavXT. This happens to have been almost exactly 6 years ago, as Breadcrumb NavXT 3.0.0 was the first version with an included widget and it was released September 22, 2008. The included widget has some options, however complex visibility options really are the job of the theme (multiple sidebars, posts and pages should not use the same sidebar for example).

    Thank you so much, John, for the quick response and especially for the info on the widget! If only I’d read the news about the updates when you added the widget, I could have saved myself 6 years of challenges. 😉 Could have had a V-8!

    Regarding getting it to show exactly how I wanted it where I wanted it, it took some playing around with a variety of options, the widget and another plugin, but knowing about your widget sooner would have saved me some time (and you too, I guess).

    Can I upgrade my rating to a 5-star? Maybe donate a few bucks for a cup of coffee or a beer? It is indeed a great plugin!

    I was a bit surprised that it was 6 years ago when I added the widget (time really does fly by).

    I think you can change your rating on the main WordPress.org plugin page for Breadcrumb NavXT, just click on the 5th star (or what ever star you want to select for you rating) on the “My Rating” portion.
