Thanks for your question. You wrote “Captions in Caption“, which I understand to mean that you have populated the EXIF “Caption” field with your values.
You can use a mapping rule to populate the WordPress Caption value from your EXIF field:
- Navigate to the Settings/Media Library Assistant IPTC/EXIF tab.
- Scroll down to the Caption line of the Standard Field Mapping section.
- Enter “Caption” in the text box under the EXIF/Template Value heading.
- Set the Priority dropdown control to EXIF and the Existing Text dropdown to Replace.
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click “Save Changes” to record your settings.
To make the rule(s) run automatically when you add items to the Media Library, check the “Enable IPTC/EXIF Mapping when adding new media” and “Enable IPTC/EXIF Mapping when updating media metadata” boxes at the top of the IPTC/EXIF tab. Do this before you define the rule so the “Save Changes” will record your new settings.
Once that’s done you can use the Map All Attachments, Standard Fields Now button to go back and set the Caption field for your existing items, if that is appropriate. You can use the Media/Assistant Bulk Edit area or the Media/Edit Media screen to make more selective replacements. Look for the Map IPTC/EXIF Metadata button on either of those screens.
You also wrote “Having an update system would also help.” The current MLA version will read EXIF data from the image file when it is added to the library or when you run one of the other mapping commands. There is no current function to update the metadata of items already in the Library or use metadata updates prepared in another tool, such as Lightroom. I do not have any plans to add these features to a future MLA version.
There is another plugin you might use to achieve your goal:
WP/LR Synch
I do not have any personal experience with it, but it came up in an earlier topic:
Support for WP/LR Sync + Hi 😉
If you decide to try it, I welcome any comments you can share and I will help you if you encounter any problems with it.
I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have problems or further questions regarding the above suggestions. Thank you for your interest in the plugin.
