• I’ve been managing a website that runs on a custom theme for a few years, and I have not had any problems. I recently updated to WordPress 4.4.2, and now the horizontal navigation and main menu no longer shows up on the website (www.usfoodsovereigntyalliance.org). I am no longer in touch with the designer, and I am not skilled in coding.

In an attempt to fix the problem, I updated all of the plug-ins. I cleared my history and the cache in my browser, but this did not bring the navigation menu back. I deactivated all of my plug-ins, but this did not bring the navigation menu back either. The custom menu is still there on the back-end, in Appearance>Menus, and it is still assigned to the correct location. I looked at header.php and functions.php, but I could not see anything glaringly wrong.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just use a new theme? It doesn’t seem like the custom theme could be the problem, but I am ready to move on from this custom theme anyway.

    Thanks.

  • Many older Themes don’t work on current versions of WordPress, or even newer browsers, if they are no longer actively supported by their Author. That is an unfortunate fact of life.

Unless you are prepared to dig in deep into the Theme’s files, and build two new test WordPress systems, one 4.4.2 and the other whatever version it last worked in, then try to re-create and isolate the problem, I would think it is time to walk away from the old theme, and find a new one that meets your needs.
