• Hello,

I work for a corporation with an internal only facing blog and upon trying to install JetPack I get the following error:

Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host.
Operation timed out after 15000 milliseconds with 0 bytes received

I tried uploading it manually only to get the following error:

The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini.

I do not have access to FTP after looking up support articles.

    My questions:

    1. Does Jetpack work with an internal only facing link to measure internal traffic? If so, how do I get it working properly with the errors I am getting?
    2. If not, are there any other alternative solutions that would meet this need?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hi there! Jetpack relies on a connection to our servers in order to record stats. So, if you’re site isn’t publicly accessible, then I’m afraid you won’t be able to use all of Jetpack’s features.

I did investigate some alternatives for you, and it looks like Google Analytics will work on an intranet. You can find some more info about that here:

I hope that helps clear things up!

    Thanks Ryan.

We might be able to make our internal facing url accessible but I need to know specifically what is trying to be accessed and how please.

Eg jetpack is trying to call your blog on port 443 from our servers at xyz.com.

Jetpack connects to your site using the XML-RPC protocol. So, Jetpack needs to be able to access your xmlrpc.php file, which lives at the root of the installation.

If your site is not publicly accessible, you may want to consider using Jetpack’s Development Mode:
    https://jetpack.me/support/development-mode/

This will allow you to use Jetpack’s features that don’t require a connection. Hope that helps!
