Once your site is back online, I would recommend that you review the different features you’ve added to your site, via Jetpack, other plugins, and via your theme.
Depending on the modules you’ve activated and the new elements you added to your site thanks to Jetpack, an impact on your site’s performance could indeed be expected. For example, if you’ve added Like buttons, Related Posts, a few widgets, and sharing buttons, that will indeed increase your site’s loading time.
Like with every other plugin, when enabling features, you decide to decide if that feature is worth the performance hit it could bring to your site. In general, any features that use images, or call resources from third-party services (like the sharing buttons or the Facebook and Twitter widgets) will have an effect on your site performance.
Since you mentioned the Facebook sharing icon, I assume you’re using the official sharing button style, as set under Settings > Sharing in your dashboard. This button style will have an effect on your site performance, as you’re loading multiple resources for each one of the buttons you added to your site. A quick way to minimize the impact of the sharing buttons is to switch to an non-official button style.
If you think Jetpack makes your site slower, but don’t know what particular feature is to blame, you can go to Jetpack > Settings and deactivate each module, one at a time, until you can pinpoint the performance hit to a specific module. You can then decide whether that feature is worth the impact it has on your site’s speed.
That said, if you can’t pinpoint the performance hit to a specific feature or module, you might have found a bug! If that’s the case, let me know.
