• Hey guys I am new to WordPress and I am now in big trouble.

I installed WordPress into cPanel following the official instructions, I uploaded the wordpress zip file, extracted them, move all files under public_html, then created the MySQL database. I am sure I put all information correctly, but when I went to my website and type /wp-admin at the end, it only shows 403 Forbidden, I have noticed that in MySQL databases, there is a piece of warning on the top of page, it says
This server is running an unsupported MySQL version (5.1). Ask your system administrator to upgrade MySQL to improve security and features.

I am not sure if this is the case. If so, what can I do to fix this?
Please give me some suggestions as this is an urgent case, thanks a lot

  • Hi,

WordPress should work on MySQL 5.1 anyway hosting who use that outdated MySQL is not worth pay any penny.

If you have trouble during installation, probably your host/server is not the best solution to host site.

    Even if manual setup fails,
In cPanel, can you try to automatically setup WordPress? (I think there is an automated “button” or so – not sure I didn’t use cPanel for a while).

You do not need cPanel to install WordPress.

    Hi waneyishiliu,

Your cPanel should allow you to automatically install your WordPress site through a one-click process. This helps the system do all of the backend connections (such as creating the databases and syncing up the passwords) for you.

I suggest deleting what you have started and start over through cPanel’s one-click install.

If your old site allows you to, I recommend exporting all your posts and pages and media (pictures, videos, audios, if you have those) in an XML file. This will allow you to import them directly into your new WordPress site and attribute your content to your user name, etc.

    I hope this helps,
    Charlene

Please refer the following WordPress documentation for proper installation.

Also most of the hosting control panels support automated installation of WordPress. You can check with your hosting provider to get more information about automatic installation through hosting control panel.

As for your issue, overall any webserver is far from that requirement (LAMP with MySQL 5.2 +).

I suggest you ask your provider to upgrade a bit LAMP stack.
