I purchased a license and changed the “Element Width” and “Element Height” fields under the “Gallery/Content Pop-Up” tab so that the initial thumbnails would be larger than the default.

It worked, but the images are now stretched larger and do not look very good. Is there a way to change the thumbnail sizes generated or used?

Here’s the page I’m working on: http://wellcreated.com/our-work/ – You can see that the elements are sized to 375×308, but the actual images are only 280×230, so they look pixelated.

    Thanks,
    Chad

  • Dear user so you try to fit 280×230 image in 375×308 box without stretching it? actually the natural size of the images are 520×428 so they are even compressed into box.

Sorry, I don’t understand the response. I realize my own explanation wasn’t very clear. Here’s a better explanation of what I’ve done:

    1. In the Portfolio Gallery settings, I changed the “Gallery/Content Pop-Up” element width to 375 and the element height to 308. This size seems to best fit my site.
    2. I created a new portfolio gallery.
    3. I added 4 projects to it. For each project, I uploaded a 1000×822 jpg.
    4. When I preview the portfolio gallery, it appears to be displaying a (natural) 280x230px image in the 375×308 element.

I don’t know where the 280×230 image came from, but it obviously doesn’t look good when stretched to 375×308. And I don’t know where you’re seeing 520×428 images.

How do I make this look good? Do I need to start with a different image size (or aspect ratio)? Do I need to change my thumbnail settings? What?

    Thanks for your help,
    Chad

Dear user when you upload new image in plugin, element have default dimensions, right? it is 280×230, So you uploaded images, they caught the default size, and you see that 280×230.
but, if you first change the dimensions to 375×308, and only after upload you images, they will catch the size of 375×308.

Also the appearance of the images depends not only the size of the element.
Your uploaded images also should have proportional size
for example: if your element is 3×2 the images can be 6×4, 9×6, 12×8 and so on, then they will not look stretched

It sounds like I’m doing everything correctly. Perhaps something is wrong with the thumbnail generator?

I deleted all the media images and also deleted all my gallery portfolios, so I could start over fresh. In the gallery portfolio settings, I set the pop-up dimensions to 375×308. Then I created a new portfolio and added the projects/images which are proportional to my chosen element size. (Note: Whenever I uploaded images within the plugin, they would not show up until I left the plugin and came back, so maybe it’s erroring at that point.)

It’s still not working, though. If you look at the page (http://wellcreated.com/our-work/), you’ll see that it worked correctly for one image but not for any of the others. The second image (top-right) is correctly sized down to 375×308. The others are still 280×230. I didn’t do anything to cause them to be sized differently.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Chad

I think I figured it out on my own…

I had originally added the images to the plugin before changing from the default dimensions, and it created thumbnails for that dimension. When I later changed the dimensions, the plugin doesn’t appear to have created new thumbnails (or kept using the old ones).

I had to go into the uploads folder and manually remove the thumbnails created by Portfolio Gallery, then re-add the media to the plugin so that it would create the correctly sized thumbnails.

Yes, that was what I was tiring to explain) good job
