Hi ladeyemo,
you are right, this is not supposed to happen. The plugin should allow you to sign up through the optin form.
I am 95% sure that this is caused by using a non-default field identifier with MailChimp. The plugin is set to use the default values called EMAIL and FNAME.
To fix this:
- Login to your MailChimp account
- Click on Lists in the navigation menu
- Click on the name of your list
- Click on Settings in the submenu
- Click on List fields and |*MERGE*| tags
- Double check that your first name field is using the tag FNAME. If it is called LNAME or NAME, you are using a different field, respectively last name field or full name field. You can rename that field to FNAME and click on Save Changes
- Try submitting the form on your website again
Let me know if this fixed your issue! 🙂
Hi Boris,
Thanks for the instructions. Right now, I’m only using the email field; nothing else. I just want people to be able to put their email address in and get signed on to the list once they hit subscribe. So I checked on the List and Merge tags and saw that the email field just uses the tag “email” which I assume to be correct.
Would it help if I sent you my site address privately so you can see what’s happening?
Thanks
Sure, send through http://codeleon.com/contact and I will take a look!
Sent a reply. Seems to be working for me! 🙂
I’m having a similar problem.
I have a double opt-in setup using a form designed in the Mailchimp for WordPress plug-in.
Last week this was working fine and I started getting emails being captured.
However, I have tried a few different email addresses for testing, and none are receiving the confirmation email that should be sent in return.
Please advise on what I need to check to locate the issue.
Cheers
Pev

Hi PierinoGattei,
I would like to help you out, but you are not using the Optin Forms plugin, but the MailChimp for WordPress plugin 😉
