Google Webmaster Tools Verification

Can you help please, I have built a new website using Wodpress and want to verify my site and include the code for Google Webmaster Tools.
I have pasted the code into your plug in and when I follow the instructions online it still says verification failed (after 48 hours).
Any suggestions please.
