You’ll need to add the /wp-admin/install.php to the end of whatever you type to access her blog. for example. http://www.domain.com/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php WordPress is a subdirectory of your root web directory.

Thank you
I was under the impression by what files I was seeing in the folder that wordpress aided in the design aspect of the blog page . Is that true or do I need to design the blog page separately. And do I then name the wordpress folder what ever her blog is going to be named then link to that folder for the blog??
The look of any WP blog is defined by the theme in use. There thousands of free themes, you can pick one or make your own.
WP can be installed in any (sub)directory no matter what their name is.

I kind of wanted to see what the themes are that WP provides to “try” to mayke it a little easier but I am unable to see them using dreamweaver 4. If I attempt to design it my self do I just save the “blog” design to the WP folder and is there a specific folder to save it to? then how do I apply the blog code to the page??

I did try typing in http://www.herdomain.com/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php and I didn’t get a login page I am just getting a generic page since her website is still under construction but I was hoping to get her blog at least started. I may just be trying to jump the gun.
Well, I guess you should get a bit more familiar with how the WP theme system works…
1. Don’t use DW for editing the WP theme files – it will screw up everything.
2. There is a lot of info in the Codex:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Development
http://codex.wordpress.org/Blog_Design_and_Layout
Re your last post: is WP installed in a subfolder named “wordpress” or is in the root? If the latter, omit the /wordpress/ part 🙂

WordPress is the only folder currently in the directory, so I wouldn’t use /wordpress/ in the address, correct??
I guess my problem is that according to the install instructions I should at least get some sort of login page to put in a login and password, but I am not getting that. I thought that that was part of the “5-minute install” was the login?? should I get to that point even at the early stages that I am in??
I did just find the “codex” pages so I am starting to go through those
thank you
Well, with “herdomain” and without a link it is difficult to figure out what you messed up.
Yes, during the install it gives you the login info (admin+pw) and clicking the link should have taken you exactly to the login page.
If your have a directory called “wordpress” then it IS in a subfolder, so the paths suggested above should work.

Here it christyreisinger.com
I was just looking at the database on the server to make sure it is ready and it is, but am I suppose to put that in her directory or does it just stay where it is and I don’t mess with it?
Rule of thumb: if you don’t know what that “thing” is (like the database) never mess around with it!
And sorry, for giving you the theme develeopment links above.
You need to start with more basic things:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Getting_Started_with_WordPress
(what is it you are referring to all the time “her directory”???)

The directory on the server where her pages and anything extra is stored.1and1.com doesn’t really call it the public_html folder but that is what it is essentially.
OK. Let’s get back to the basics.
1. 1&1 is one of the worst hosts possible…
2. You just confused everybody here by starting to talk about “design” when your problem is to make a standard installation.
3. There are no files, there nothing at the domain you gave above.
4. Decide where you want our WP to be installed and follow the detailed instructions:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Detailed_Instructions
I would hazard a guess the files are now in http://blah.com/wordpress/wordpress

Well I have downloaded an all new version of WP and downloaded Fetch for my FTP program to take DW completely out of the picture and still nothing so now I have a question into the servers tech help to see what they can do. 1and1 claim that they can do WP, so we’ll see.
Thanks for all of your help and being patient with the newbie
hopefully everything wil be better tomorrow.
