I love the Jetpack plugin and am very satisfied with it, I use it to replace many other bulky plugins that might break my site themes.

I have the mobile theme feature in jetpack enabled. But it has a problem identifying between mobile and desktop themes for Android tablets. It shows the mobile theme on all the Android tablets i tested (when it should show desktop theme – I tested this using Chrome devel tools). Is there a workaround for this. My site layout looks very ugly and confusing on the extended mobile theme.

Thanks for the report. Could you let me know on what tablets you experienced the issue, so I can investigate further?

Hello Jeremy, let me give you some details from me… I’m using a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 with Google Chrome and on both devices I get the mobile theme when Jetpack Mobile Theme is activated.

Jetpack’s mobile detection follows these recommendations (reference), but it would seem that Samsung Galaxy Tab doesn’t. In my tests, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1’s User Agent was the following:

    Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.2; en-us; SCH-I800 Build/FROYO) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1

Since it includes the word “Mobile”, we consider it as a mobile device.

We’ll need to add a new rule to catch Galaxy Tab tablets somehow. You can follow our progress here:

    Thanks for the report!
