Is it possible for a WP Multisite to create/use more than one database.
Yes.
Are you changing the domain name, though? If not, it’s just pick it up and go.
Yes, changing the domain and the directory…
Ow. Ow. Ow.
Open wp-config.php and see what your table prefix is. I BET it’s St4aARcKwnK0wp_
Then look in /plugins/ and see if you have HyperDB or SharDB.
Let’s see if we can unravel this, but you’re in for a lot of work.
Sounds scary! Thanks for your advice so far.
Indeed, the table prefix is St4aARcKwnK0wp_.
No HyperDB or SharDB in the plugns dir, though. Here is a list of all the plugins in the dir:

Is there a db-config.php file by your wp-config.php file?
No. I can’t see any db-config.php file or similar anywhere in the installation.
In wp-config, what’s your table prefix?
As you suspected, it is St4aARcKwnK0wp_
Well… Okay, those tables HAVE to be there somewhere or nothing runs π
They’ll be this:
St4aARcKwnK0wp_site
St4aARcKwnK0wp_blogs
St4aARcKwnK0wp_x_posts
St4aARcKwnK0wp_x_options
OK, so this is where it get’s weird and where I get stuck. Those tables do not exist. In any of the databases within this hosting account.
This is a list of all the databases and tables within this account. Hopefully you might be able to see something I can’t…cheers!

Mika,
Can you please delete my last post? Rookie error, but the hosting account has been hacked since I posted the list of tables here. Sorry for the mess around. Would appreciate your prompt assistance with this.
Thank you for removing the table list! Obviously the original issue still persists…
Confirming none of those tables appear in the databases on this hosting account.
I’m also curious to understand how the account was hacked simply from a table list? Somehow there were extra files with malicious code installed in to directories. How is this possible without login credentials?
OK, so this is where it get’s weird and where I get stuck. Those tables do not exist. In any of the databases within this hosting account.
They do… somewhere. Are you sure you’re seeing ALL the tables on the DB? If you’re using PHPMyAdmin, you have have to click to the next page.
Also I didn’t delete your post so I have no idea what went on.
