• Hi there,

I have a self-hosted WordPress 4.0 running Twenty Fourteen which I want to keep it private from everyone, except a few wordpress.com users

At the moment I use a plugin called “Registered users only” as there is no default option to control as one would have in wordpress.com.

    Is there a way to
    a) make sure that no one can see the blog, whenever they access the url they should be prompted to log in
    b) for people to be able to log in using their wordpress.com (jetpack) credentials – only those that I invite?

I’ve been looking at jetpack and other plugins but none of them seem to have this…

    Thanks,

    Marius

I would doubt that. They will need accounts at your site.

You really have three different requirements:

    1. a Private Site
    2. “Single Sign-On” (SSO), which goes by various names (e.g. – Social Media Connect), to allow WordPress.com IDs to have access
    3. A way to select which WordPress.com IDs have access

You are very unlikely to find a single plugin to do this for you. Best I can suggest is “divide and conquer” by looking for multiple plugins. Unfortunately, I know from experience with my own plugin (jonradio Private Site) that SSO compatibility is a huge issue for many plugins.

Chatroll’s SSO works perfectly for me, so maybe take a look at how its plugin does that if you still have needs there:
