css edits are "almost" correct

    Hello all,

    I’m doing css edits on a theme called Carmag by SM Themes. Their support isn’t very supportive of my custom css edits, so I was hoping to find a css Wizard here.

    I’m trying to “stick” my top nav menu to top of screen and I almost have it correct, but there’s a gap I can’t close.

    It’s not apparent in Firefox when editing, but it is in every other browser. This is the custom css I have and my site’s at – http://2002bmw.com.

    #mainmenu-container {
position:absolute;
top:0px;
}
body {
margin-top:70px;
}
#mainmenu-container {
position:fixed;
top:25px;
left:50;
font-size: 25px;
font-family: "arial";
width:985px;
z-index: 99;
}

    There has been several code edits over the past several days which have led up to the current code.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    main issue your having is that you have to styles for the same div

    <strong>#mainmenu-container {
position:absolute;</strong>
top:0px;
}

<strong>#mainmenu-container {
position:fixed;
top:25px;</strong>
left:50;
font-size: 25px;
font-family: "arial";
width:985px;
z-index: 99;
}

    best option is to remove top:25px; and join it all together:

    #mainmenu-container {
position: fixed;
top: 0px;
font-size: 25px;
font-family: "arial";
width: 985px;
z-index: 99;
}

    Thanks for the suggestion. But when I make the code change you suggested, It only moves the menu bar downward covering part of the logo top and still doesn’t stick the menu bar to top of page.

    There is still about a 20px gap from page top.

    Sorry, I can’t see the changes. The nav is already fixed and moving down with scrolling of the site, changing the css to top:0px should work fine. I’m looking in chrome and firefox.

    This is what I have now and it’s worse than before I posted:

    Your homepage has inline style, this needs taking out of your php page of:

    #mainmenu-container {
position: fixed;
margin-top: 25px;
top: 0px;
left: 50;
font-size: 25px;
font-family: "arial";
width: 985px;
z-index: 99;
}

    on your other pages you have the following which is missing the ; therefore position fixed doesn’t work:

    #mainmenu-container {
margin-top: 0px top:0px position:fixed;
margin-top: 0px;
font-size: 25px;
font-family: "arial";
width: 985px;
z-index: 99;
}

    they both need to be changed to:

    #mainmenu-container {
margin-top: 0px
top:0px;
position:fixed;
margin-top: 0px;
font-size: 25px;
font-family: "arial";
width: 985px;
z-index: 99;
}

    I can’t use that code. When I do, the menu returns back to it’s original position “under the slider”, it cuts off some of the first content on the page and it doesn’t stick to the top.

    This is what I have now. It works, but it is about a 20px from the top where it should be:

    #mainmenu-container {
position: fixed;
font-size: 25px;
font-family: "arial";
width:985px;
z-index: 99;
left: 50;
top: 0;
border-top: 0;
}

    I just need to close that 20px gap at the top of the page above the navbar.

    Maybe the best way to do this is to create a child theme and edit header.php.

    Would that be a better solution? The css changes I’ve been making are to the custom css page in the theme’s admin settings.

    I haven’t been editing the style.css file.

    I already posted once while you still had the old code and you completely ignored me. Here’s another one for the new code:

    Keep your current codes as is and copy-paste this to the bottom of your custom CSS:

    #mainmenu-container {
    margin-top: 0 !important;
    top: 0 !important;
}

    Still a no go. This is what I’m seeing in IE, Safari, Chrome and Opera:

    Look here as well, it does work.

    I look at the CSS there and that code was never added. YOu need to add it to either the child-theme’s CSS or custom CSS.

    Thanks. Perfecto Mondo! The css you suggested and me making the child theme worked! One small css tweak left.

    After seeing this work, I’d like to right align the menu text instead of it’s current left position.

    What is the css property? This doesn’t seem to work:
    `text-align:right;~
