Try downloading the plugin from the plugin page and installing the files manually via FTP. Seems you may have gotten a bad download, somehow.

Thanks, I am trying that now. Do you know of any way to import my settings from the previous plugin folder (which I simply renamed) to the one I am now uploading? Thanks!
Hi,
The settings aren’t contained within the folder, so uploading a fresh copy via FTP to the same folder won’t impact your settings.
Cheers!
Does not look like an accidental bad download to me, so others report it, I got it here, repeatedly (after FTP delete, re-install again):

In my case it definitely was not a bad download as I have had Jetpack installed for many months. The errors I was getting all pointed to the ‘class.jetpack-heartbeat.php’ file as missing, which it was. I am concerned why that file suddenly disappeared when I myself never deleted it. I will check with my host as well just in case something else is going on.
hello, i have the same issue. I have jetpack and did not install the updates yesterday. And then when i tried accessing the site this morning i got this fatal error. I am not installing the plugins through ftp, so my ftp account is not set-up. help please.
ZoliErdos: You’re certain that you deleted the whole /jetpack/ folder and then reuplaoded it? Can you show me a screenshot of the content of your /jetpack/ folder?
mbnocx: Do you have 2.9.3 now, and do you still have errors?
teddyskitchenph: Could you post your site URL here, so I can have a look?

Yes:
1: deleted the entire folder structure, but then installed it from within the WP Admin area.
2: Deleted folder via FTP again, downloaded jetpack.zip, and installed it, but again used WP admin to upload / imstall from the zip on my computer.
3: deleted again, unzipped pkg on my computer, then copied files via ftp. Now it seems to work.

I am no longer having any issues. I was just concerned as to why the file was deleted but I would agree that this is not a plugin issue and could be something with my host (hopefully nothing worse).
I am good though. 🙂
Support:
I tried the above suggestions but I have still have no success:
1: Deleted the entire folder structure via WP Admin confirming with the “Yes, Delete these files and data” button.
2: Downloaded jetpack.zip v2.9.3, unzipped it on my computer, and then uploaded the folder and its contents via ftp to the plugin folder.
3. When I active it (as “jetpack” does show up in my plugin list), I get the following error: “Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class Jetpack_Options in /home/epasda0/public_html/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/class.jetpack-options.php on line 3”
Can you tell me what I am missing?
I figured it out.
It’s apparent that there was a plugin conflict between Jetpack and “Gallery Carousel Without JetPack”. So disabling the later resolved the problem.
Deleting the folder via FTP and then uploading the last version and unzipping it, that makes it work.
