• just tried to install word press and I got the following error

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘]’, expecting ‘,’ or ‘)’ in /home/a2600260/public_html/wp-includes/query.php on line 1635

my site is hosted by 000webhost.com

the error happens when I run the install script, I enter the database details, username and password. then the host and it gets past that but then it just stops?

its the default install, I have uploaded the files to the root directory using ftp.

    any ideas 🙂

    thanks

  • Try re-uploading all files & folders from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

just deleted the database and all file to the directory was empty, downloaded again and extracted.

uploaded to the server, went to the webpage and got the screen to setup the config file, done that and it accepted it ok. when to run the install and had the same error.

You still have a corrupted file. Did you use a fresh download as suggested?

deleted everything downloaded and started from scratch, still get the same error?

I enter the db info and get to the run install and get the same error?

    HELP!

I’m sorry but the error message indicates that you still have at least 1 corrupted file.

I have downloaded the version 3.6.1 from the site and unzipped it to the root of my ftp? what else can I do or do you have any other suggestions.

    thanks

    Delete all files and folders.
Download fresh copy of WordPress & unzip it on your computer.
Upload all files & folders ensuring that you retain the file/folder hierarchy.

so shall I transfer the wordpress directory and everything in it?

No – open the wordpress folder on your computer & transfer its contents to the remote server.

What control panel does your host use? It might be possible to use a script to install wp – a number of hosts / control panels have them. This might prevent your issue repeating? If you are following the steps described, it should be working!

just removed everything again, downloaded the software again, extracted it and the default directory it extracted to was wordpress.

I uploaded this to the root all files in the wordpress folder and run the setup again and still got the same error.

Does your host offer a 1-click installer?

no the host is 000webhost.com its a free account, I want to test it all and get it running before I buy hosting.

We do not recommend using free hosts to run WordPress.

so how do I test the software so I can get used to it? are you saying their is no support if I use them? if that’s the case it’s not a good start for a new user who is looking to move away from html and use word press.
