• Hi all,

I recently installed WordPress on a server within a local network at home. My server internal IP is 192.168.1.100, and this is the address that I placed the wordpress directory on the installation screen of wordpress.

Everything is working fine. I can access WordPress from within my network (http://192.168.1.00). But when i try to access the blog from outside the network (all ports are forwarded), it loads very very slowly, and only ever loads partially. All my themes and stylesheets are not loaded.

Now, I’ve read many forum entries here, and I know you cant have the blog visible from both inside and outside the network without a hosts entry. That is not my question. My question relates to the address I use to install the blog to.

Should I install it to 192.168.1.100, or should I install it to my static IP address assigned by my Internet provider(222.xxx.xxx.xxx)? The field I am talking about is the WordPress address and blog address under the Options|General tab within WordPress.

    Many thanks.

  • LOL, mate, just download the WAMP prog to install the webserver. But i suggest you buy a webhost (10$year or less).

Now, when you install the server, you should access it from the computer (the one you have webserver on) with address:

    localhost

From your other computer in LAN: 192.168.x.xxx

from your shool to you webserver : 222.xxx.xxx.xxx. you should open port 80 from your router to let the traffic in.

    cheers

Yes, I’ve done all that. But, as per my initial post, when i access the blog from outside the network, i only get a partial blog. Something is not right.

Hence my initial question. When I install the blog, do I install it to the IP 192.168.1.100 OR 220.xxx.xxx.xxx???

    Thanks again.

I think you need to use the 220.xxx address and you will need to edit your systems hosts file. You should be able to sort out what do from this thread

Thanks IanD, I’ll give it a go now. Appreciate your answers to my question, not what I should do. I’ll update the status when and if it works.
