Any reason why that happened?
None whatsoever if she followed the process you described. Perhaps this was due to another issue entirely and the timing was just coincidental?
Yeah, I’m wondering that too. If there’s an underlying issue somewhere. =/
Thanks! Now she’s trying to figure out how to get everything back. Restoring backups wasn’t successful (because she unfortunately doesn’t have any good recent backups…). I’m thinking she might be out of luck.
May be host has backup check with them
We did. They don’t.
I’m wondering if going in via PHPMyAdmin and restoring the admin username would make a difference.
Probably not. Have you checked the database to see if the posts are still there?
Posts are fine. The problem is mainly images (most everything in her media library – /uploads – folder is gone, for some reason).
Have you checked that folder for uploaded images using FTP?
Yep. Everything in wp-content/uploads/the-year-and-month-folders is gone. The folders themselves remain, but the files are gone.
Then I’m afraid those files are gone unless the hosts have a backup copy.
Yep, that’s the conclusion I’ve come to as well. Hooray. =/
If anyone has advice on this, please share it. For what it’s worth, my site is running Genesis framework and the latest versions of it and WP.
Unlike Lisa’s client, my media files all appear to be on the FTP directory, but my WP installation does not ‘see’ them anymore. Also, my database is still 14.5MB, so it’s not empty. It seems everything’s disassociated from my site.
Please post your own topic. Your problem – despite any similarity in symptoms – is likely to be completely different.
