I am having multiple domains and different webhosting server.

I am successfully installed the wordpress mutisite in one of the domain in a server. In that domain, i am created 3 subdomain and map the domain to toplevel domains which on same server.

Now,I want to do with different webhosting, is multisite possible with different web hosting?

is multisite possible with different web hosting?

no. all sites are on one webhost.

All domains you want to map are pointed to the same webhost.

    Hi andrea,

    Thanks for reply.

My aim: site1.com is multisite and i want to map site2.com which is hosted on B server.

    site1.com multisite A server
    videos.site1.com A server
    article.site1.com A server
    site2.com B server

Note:A server and B server are different shared hosting.

I created two subdomain in multisite with the help of domain mapping plugin i mapped the videos.site1.com with site2.com

I tried to do this it’s working sometimes but sometimes not working..

    Working this way:
If i enterd videos.site1.com it redirected to site2.com
If i entered site2.com/wp-admin it redirected to videos.site1.com/wp-admin

    Not working in friend’s computer:
If i entered videos.site1.com it redirected to site2.com
If i entered site2.com/wp-admin it remain same as site2.com/wp-admin

Why sometimes working and not sometimes?

So Site 1 is a WordPress MultiSite and Site 2 is something else? And you want videos.site1.com to redirect to Site 2? That sounds to me like a DNS change and not something you need to do inside WordPress.

    Thread Starter mathanraj

    (@mathanraj)

No, i don’t want to change DNS of both domain. It should be as it is.
For eg: i change the theme in videos.site1.com
If i enter the videos.site1.com it sucessfully redirect to site2.com and shown that theme.

Why i am doing this, i want to mange all the domains with the help of multisite in the A server only. I don’t want to go to B server.

I am having many domains and differnet web hosting. I want to manage all of them in one web server without moving files.

Well, you’ll need to move the content of siteb over to the multisite install at sitea.

whrn you sucessfully map a domain, it then shows up at the same server. Doesn;t matter if siteB used to be on a different serve,r once you map it. it shows up in site a.

I think you;re misunderstanding what domain mapping does. It changes the address of a subsite to another domain. but it still shows the content of the subsite.

you cannot manage the blog on another hosting account with multisite, domain mapping or not.

    Thread Starter mathanraj

    (@mathanraj)

yes,I done this. it will shows the content of the subsite.

If anything changes in subsite, it always stored (database table) in mutisite install at A server. I want to store in B server also.

Why it’s not possible to manage blog on another hosting account with multisite? what about this plugin? Is this support on shard hosting?

I think this plugin, capable works on multiserver.. i think so..

    Tim Moore

    (@tmoorewp)

No, that plugin does not work the way you think it does. That plugin is for people who run their own servers, not for people who use shared hosting accounts.

Andrea is right. What you are doing is not what WordPress MultiSite is designed to do.

I asked here and says possible in shared hosting.

You asked “Can I use HyperDB on shared hosting” and yes, yes you can.

If you asked “Can I use HyperDB for WordPress Multisite?” then that’s a DIFFERENT question.

    Read: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/hyperdb/changelog/

    First item under version 1.0:

Removed support for WPMU and BackPress.

    Thread Starter mathanraj

    (@mathanraj)

@ipstenu No This plugin support Multisite. It’s not support WPMU

In wordpress, WPMU is old one it support only multisite. See here @andrea reply.

I know that MU != MultiSite

However. HyperDB isn’t tagged as being MultiSite friendly. Yes, MU support was removed, but that doesn’t mean MultiSite was put in to replace it. And yes, I know this is what’s used on WordPress.com for a master/slave setup, but that doesn’t mean the Plugin was kept up. It’s a HyperDB question, which as you know here has not been answered yet.

So no, we don’t know either how to make it work (though I DO know that HyberDB doesn’t DO the replication for you, SQL has to do that).

If you want to setup WordPress MultiSite with domain mapping, follow Andrea’s directions.

If you just want to get HyperDB up and running, you have your other topic.

And hyper db still WILL NOT DO WHAT YOU WANT.

You cannot manage multiple blogs on different shared hosts with multisite and you could not do it with WPMU. Period. regardless of plugins.

I do know there are a couple plugins that will let you manage multiple *installs* on different hosts, but it has nothing to do with multisite.

so,with the help of sql query is possible.

Can you tell me which plugin? I think these plugin shardb or multi-db.

Can you tell me which plugin? I think these plugin shardb or multi-db.

No. Those are not the plugins. I said I can’t remember the names, mostly because they sound cheesy.

I can’t remember the names of the ones I was thinking of but multi db and shardb and hyper db are for splitting the databases across ONE host.

Again, those plugins do not do what you want.

    Edit: found it.

    http://managewp.com/

    See? NOT multiple db plugins.
