One of our colleagues created 2 different search properties for the same site:

    http:www.phippsburgobserver.org
    https:www.phippsburgobserver.org

We deleted the first property since it never gathered any data and was created in error.

However, Site Kit was connected to that http property, and after it was deleted, we now no longer see the “Disconnect from Site Kit” option we find under the other connected services, instead only “you don’t have access to this Search Console property.”

How would we disconnect the http property so we can connect to the https property?

Hi there, there are a few problems here:

    • Search Console is a required service so it can’t be disconnected and reconnected independently like others can.
    • It is possible to change the property in the settings if there is another valid property you have access to for the same site (http/https/www/apex or domain property), but in order to change it, you need to have access to the current property. Since it’s been deleted, it sees you don’t have access so that control is disabled.

The good news is there are a few options to fix it:

    • a) Recreate the http property Site Kit is configured with by adding it back in Search Console as a URL Prefix site with your same Google account you’re using in Site Kit. Once it’s there, you should be able to select the https property the Search Console settings in Site Kit. Once it’s changed, and Site Kit is working again, you can remove the http property in Search Console again.
    • b) Reset Site Kit and reconnect everything again. Not ideal.
    • c) If you’re comfortable making changes to WP options, you can set the correct value for propertyID in the googlesitekit_search-console_settings option.

Give one of these a try and let me know how it goes?

We reset Site Kit, reconnected, and now everything is working perfectly. Thank you for the tips.
