• I just installed the plug-in and am absolutely loving it so far. I am a photographer and would like to use Photonic to display the last 20 or so photo galleries from Zenfolio on my sidebar. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to figure out how to limit the display of galleries, even when using the “limit” parameter. Is there a way to do this? Right now, I have it displaying the way I want it to on the sidebar; however, it’s displaying ALL galleries, for which there are A LOT (over 5,000). Below is the code I am using:

    [gallery type='zenfolio' view='photosets' login_name='deadlydesigns' photoset_type='Gallery' structure='flat' thumb_size='2' limit='10']

    Zenfolio gallery link: https://photos.deadlydesigns.com/

    Thank you!

Unfortunately, this is a limitation with Zenfolio’s API. The only way to retrieve a user’s photosets is via the LoadGroupHierarchy method (https://www.zenfolio.com/zf/help/api/ref/methods/loadgrouphierarchy), but this does not support a limit parameter (https://api.zenfolio.com/api/1.8/zfapi.asmx?op=LoadGroupHierarchy).

Theoretically it is possible for me to first fetch the galleries, then pull the first 10 or 20, depending on the limit. But this ends up being very operationally heavy and will slow down your site.

As an alternative, if you have your photosets structured as individual groups / folders, this might become easier to manage, e.g., if your photosets are grouped by year, then month, you can opt to show just the group for the current month – this will keep the load lighter and make the user experience better.

I did discover a bug with the Group functionality, though, and I have pushed a patch for it – version 3.36 should be available in the next few hours.

    Hey Sayontan,

Thank you so much for your detailed explanation about the limitations of the Zenfolio API.  Thanks for letting me know about the bug with the group functionality! Earlier I did try to display galleries based on the group “2026” that I add all the concert photos from this year to. When I tried to add the object id of the custom group name of “2026” or the Zenfolio-defined group id, I received an error. While I don’t have my photos decided into year then months, just displaying the galleries for a year is better than displaying ALL of them 🙂  I’ll keep a lookout for the version update.

Thanks again, and thank you for the fantastic plug-in.

    Hey Sayontan,

I was able to download the updated version and have gotten it to work to display all the galleries for 2026. I am now working to incorporate your plug-in more into my site. I sent you a small donation to show my support for this awesome plug-in.

With Zenfolio, is a way for it to display a download or purchase button in the lightbox display? I see it does display the share on social links. It would be nice for people to download the resized versions of images or purchase a print straight from the lightbox view.

    Thanks again!

Unfortunately, this is another feature not supported Zenfolio – their API does not expose the link to buy a photo. Across different platforms, SmugMug is the only one that exposes the “buy” endpoint; Flickr doesn’t have it, and neither did 500px.com when they had an API.
