    Hey,

    Thank you for your message.

Yes, this migration scenario is supported. However, for our migration to work, both the source and destination sites must be accessible and have our plugin installed.

If you are migrating to a new host using the same domain name, we would recommend setting up the destination site using a temporary URL, staging URL, hosts file modification, or another method provided by your new host so that the destination site can be accessed during the migration.

Once the migration is complete and you have verified that everything is working correctly on the new host, you can update your DNS records to point your domain to the new server.

Please note that we support migrations using our Migration Key method and do not support FTP-based migrations.

Also, we only migrate WordPress-related data, including the database, themes, plugins, uploads, settings, and WordPress users. We do not migrate email accounts, email data, or other server-level files outside of WordPress.

You can refer to the video on our plugin page for the process: https://wordpress.org/plugins/migrate-guru/

Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Regards,
    Kousik

    Hi,

I have already set up the destination site using the same domain name (mydomain.com) on the new hosting account rather than using a temporary URL.

On my PC I modify my hosts file so that mydomain.com resolves to the new server, which allows me to log in and test the destination site before changing DNS publicly.

Will Migrate Guru work correctly in this setup, or does the destination site need to use a temporary URL for the migration process?

    Regards

    Hi,

    Thank you for the update.

For Migrate Guru to work correctly, both the source and destination sites must be publicly accessible and have our plugin installed and activated.

If the destination site is only accessible through a hosts file modification on your local computer and is not publicly accessible, the migration will not work. Our migration servers need to be able to communicate with both sites during the migration process.

We would recommend using a temporary URL, staging URL, or another publicly accessible setup provided by your hosting provider for the destination site. Once the migration is complete and verified, you can update your DNS records to point the domain to the new server.
