• I’ve been a Siteground customer for years and have recommended their hosting plans to multiple people in that timespan. I went into the backend of one of my sites today to find a new icon had appeared, and clicking on it bought up a “get started with AI Agent by Siteground” window – and it turns out they’ve installed this plugin on all the websites I host with them without me ever consenting to this.

Good web hosting companies should never tinker with the websites of paid customers in this way. It’s shocking behaviour for a company I’ve always been happy with to this point.

    Hello @offsetskate,

We are sorry to see that you are not happy with our decision.

We recently emailed all of our customers with WordPress applications about the upcoming changes in WordPress 7.0 and the introduction of AI capabilities within WordPress itself. We also informed them that we plan to install the AI Agent plugin by SiteGround as a connector.

The sole purpose of this action is to provide a ready-to-use integration between your WordPress application(s) and a registered WordPress AI provider, in this case, the SiteGround AI Studio service. This service is activated by default for all of our customers and includes 20,000 complimentary tokens that you can use as you choose.

Please note that we do not enforce the use of the AI Agent plugin by SiteGround, and you are free to uninstall it or use an alternative plugin instead. We simply wanted this new functionality introduced with WordPress 7.0 to work out of the box, without any additional setup or hassle for our clients.

    Best Regards,

@stanimirpanayotov, that’s completely the wrong way to do this. We shouldn’t have to uninstall anything because it shouldn’t have been put there in the first place. If people want to use any “AI” features, they should be told where to find them. You shouldn’t be pushing your software onto people’s websites in the name of “convenience”. You have no right to do so – these aren’t your websites.

I hope your team take the barrage of one star reviews straight up to whoever makes the decisions over at Siteground, because you have a lot of unhappy customers right now.

Thank you for sharing your perspective, @offsetskate.

We understand that the introduction of the plugin has raised concerns for some customers, and we appreciate you taking the time to express your view. Feedback like yours helps us better understand how these changes are received across different use cases and workflows.

Your comments will be forwarded to the appropriate internal teams so they can be taken into account as we continue reviewing both our implementation approach and how we communicate upcoming changes.

    Best Regards,
    Miroslav Tyurdiev
