Re. an older closed topic https://wordpress.org/support/topic/action-scheduler-11/ I have just found a similar issue, with 59 complete, 19 failed and 6 pending actions. This is the first I have seen these items (albeit the site was up starting last July) and still don’t really understand why they are there. I have one simple email contact form on the site, no ecommerce or anything else which WPForms can do.

I don’t fully understand the explanation in the referenced thread, especially when I have only a simple contact form, so what I really need to know is:

1. do I need to take any actions?
2. do I need the various scheduled actions or can I stop some (and if so, how)
3. I understand Pending, but why are some of the previous scheduled actions either Complete or Failed?

Thanks in advance

Hi @cliffg1821 ,

Thanks for reaching out. I am happy to clarify this for you.

WPForms uses Action Scheduler in the background to run certain tasks automatically. These tasks can include things like processing background actions, scheduled tasks from integrations, or cleanup processes. Even if you’re only using a simple contact form, it’s normal to see some scheduled actions created by WordPress plugins.

Since you mentioned seeing 59 complete, 19 failed, and 6 pending actions, it would be helpful to first confirm which plugin these actions are coming from.

When you get a chance, could you please:

Go to WPForms → Tools → Scheduled Actions in your WordPress dashboard
Click on the Failed tab and take a screenshot
Click on the Pending tab and take a screenshot as well

Please share those screenshots here so we can take a closer look.

This will help us determine whether those actions are related to WPForms or another plugin on the site. If any of the failed actions are coming from WPForms, we’ll be happy to guide you on the best next steps to get them running properly.

Looking forward to your update!

FAILED
——
The currently-19 Failed actions scroll many screen pages down (I don’t have my large screen available at present). I have a screenshot of the most recent single Failed -I have popped it on the site at https://garethgrover.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/youngest.png (How does one attach jpgs to this forum?)

Grouping the Faileds there are:

action_scheduler/migration_hook – 2-off both non-repeating, on 2025-06-08 and 2025-07-13

Hi @cliffg1821

Thanks for sharing those details and the screenshots — that’s very helpful.

From what you’ve described, the hooks such as wpforms_admin_addons_cache_update, wpforms_admin_builder_templates_cache_update, and wpforms_builder_help_cache_update are normal WPForms scheduled tasks. These run in the background to keep things like templates, addon data, and builder resources updated so the plugin continues to function properly.

Seeing these hooks listed in the scheduler is expected. However, if some of them are showing as failed or pending, it often means the WordPress cron system (WP_Cron) may not be running consistently on the site.

When you have a chance, it would be a good idea to check with your hosting provider and ask them to confirm that:

• WP_Cron is enabled and healthy
• Cron jobs are triggering correctly on the server

If the cron system isn’t firing regularly, scheduled tasks like these can remain pending or occasionally fail.
Once the cron system is running normally, these scheduled actions should start processing as expected.

Hope that helps!

OK, I have checked with my hoster and they reply:

“`I can confirm that wp-cron has been running successfully on the site from 28 Feb till present and continuous to work as expected. (Please note we only store backups up to 30 days back, we won’t have any record before then.)

Just to confirm wp-cron is working and is running as expected.

Earliest:

[28/Feb/2026:12:13:07 +0000] “POST /wp-cron.php?doing_wp_cron=1772280787.9353270530700683593750 HTTP/1.1” 200 0 “-” “WordPress/6.9.1; https://garethgrover.com”

Most current:

[09/Apr/2026:12:50:13 +0100] “POST /wp-cron.php?doing_wp_cron=1775735413.5260479450225830078125 HTTP/1.1” 200 20 “-” “WordPress/6.9.4; https://{a different web site}.co.uk”`

——————-

I currently have 5 tasks pending to 2026-04-11, (these are all Scheduled dates)
then a series of Completes up to 2026-04-08 back to 2026-04-05,
then a series of Failed all on 2026-03-26
then a series of Completes from 2026-03-25 to 2026-03-18
then 3 Failed on 2026-03-17
then a series of Completes from 2026-03-13 back to 2026-03-11
then 3 Failed on 2026-03-09
then several Complete on 2026-03-05
then 3 Failed on 2026-02-09
———-Hoster confirms Cron working from 2026-02-08 onwards————-
then a gap with no tasks until X Failed from 2025-10-27 back to the very first Fail on 2026-06-15

So it looks like there are both successes and failures during the period we know the Cron was working correctly.

Two questions:

1. is there a log file I can grab (e.g. from the server file tree) which will assist you.

2. The main one for me *** will any of these errors cause a Contact Form submission to fail? *** I have just tested it and it is currently working.

Thanks and I will wait to hear from you.

Hi @cliffg1821 ,

Thanks for the detailed update—that’s really helpful, and I appreciate you checking with your host as well.

Based on what you’ve shared, everything looks consistent with normal Action Scheduler behavior in WordPress.

The key message you mentioned, “Scheduled action will not be executed as no callbacks are registered” usually happens when a scheduled task runs at a moment when the plugin code hasn’t fully loaded. This is a known edge case with WordPress/Action Scheduler and isn’t specific to WPForms.

Also, the pattern you described (a mix of Completed and Failed actions) supports this—it typically points to a temporary or intermittent condition (like timing or server resources), rather than a persistent issue.

To answer your main questions:

1. Do you need to take any action?
Not urgently — especially since your contact form is working fine.
2. Can you stop the scheduled actions?
We wouldn’t recommend disabling them, as they handle background tasks for WPForms admin features. That said, they don’t affect actual form submissions.
3. Why are some Complete and some Failed?
The intermittent mix of successes and failures is expected in cases like this and usually happens due to timing/loopback conditions rather than a configuration issue.
4. Will these errors affect form submissions?
No — these specific actions are related to background/admin processes and won’t cause your contact form submissions to fail.
5. About logs
There isn’t a dedicated WPForms log for these scheduler actions. If needed, your host may be able to provide server-level logs, but based on what you’ve shared, nothing here indicates a critical issue.

Overall, since your forms are submitting correctly, everything is functioning as expected.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Amjad, that all looks good, then. I was mainly concerned that the contact form works as it is an important part of getting business.

I’ll be deleting the screen grabs from my second post in a day or two.
