Google Authenticator
-
I have used Google authenticator to log into my site for a long time now. But now every time I use it, it says wrong code. Before this I did update the plugin about a week ago. Can you tell me how I can by pass or is there a way to fix this?

Hello,
You can try to disable the 2FA from your CleanTalk Dashboard:
- Open your CleanTalk Dashboard
- Open your website settings and set the ‘Turn two factor authentication (2FA) off’ checkbox
- Press the ‘Update’ button
Did it help?
If not, then you can try to temporarily disable the plugin by renaming its folder by FTP or the Hosting Panel:
Website_ROOT/wp-content/plugins/security-malware-firewall

- How do I reset my two-factor authentication (2FA) to work again?
- Also I got this error…. 2025-10-23 23:07:50: Scheduled: scanner__launch: “WRONG_SITE_RESPONSE TEST_ACTION FOR RC scanner__controller, ERROR: OpenSSL SSL_read: Connection reset by peer, errno 104”
- Have you tried to enable it as usual?

ok, it seems to be resolved now but I have another issues. I can’t turn back on the 2FA. Once I checked the box to turn 2FA off to get in, Now when I turn it back on it says it sent me an email with the code but I never received it. So now I can’t turn it back on. How do I fix this?
Hello @loapt
The initial one-time code to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) must be sent by your website’s mail server. The Security plugin only generates the request to send this email; it does not handle the actual delivery.
I have just tested the 2FA function on our test website, and it is working correctly. This indicates the issue is likely related to email delivery. Please check your spam folder and then, if you didn’t actually receive the email, check your mail server’s logs and configuration to ensure it can send the email.

Hello
I’m still unable to receive this email and it’s not in spam. The email is a gmail address so I can’t check the server logs. What other way can I fix this so I can turn on 2FA?
You can change the method of authentication from codes by emails to codes by a 2FA app.
The guide is here:
https://cleantalk.org/help/two-factor-auth#ga2faAfter that you will no longer need emails for authentication.

This option is not listed.
Hello @loapt,
If you mean the “2FA type” option, this option will be shown after you enable 2FA. Your website mail server will send your letters with codes, not the CleanTalk servers. So if you are not receiving codes, please contact your hosting support.
Did it help you?
Let me clarify. There is no 2FA option under Account Management. I’m unable to turn this on to use the app. I do not have a hosting company for my email. It’s a free email.
