    Hello,

I have an issue of traduction in french with the cart and checkout pages : the delivery costs are based on a flat rate calculated automatically (the calculated shipping rates are based on Gelato shipping costs).

In the cart and checkout pages it’s written ”Flat rate” even in french and I would like to have ”Frais de livraison” instead. Is it possible ?

You can try to add a product using this link : https://chanaestudio.com/product/poster-dart/

Thanks for your help, have a nice day ☀️

    Hi there,

You can easily display “Frais de livraison” instead of “Flat rate” by renaming the shipping method directly in your shipping zone settings:

    1. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Shipping → Shipping Zones.
    2. Click on your shipping zone, then Edit your Flat Rate shipping method.
    3. Change the Method Title from “Flat rate” to “Frais de livraison”.
    4. Save changes.

This will update the label on both the cart and checkout pages.

Thanks for your answer but I’m sorry I can’t see what you’re speaking of.

When I go to  WooCommerce → Settings → Shipping → Shipping Zones. I have this :https://snipboard.io/Pzb2JW.jpg

    Hi @meeyock,

Thank you for sharing the screenshot—it really helps. What my colleague was referring to is the ability to rename the shipping method title directly in your shipping zone. For example, if you have a “Flat rate” method set up, you can edit it and rename it to “Frais de livraison.”

From your screenshot, it looks like you don’t currently have any shipping zones or methods set up, which is why you don’t see that option. At the moment, WooCommerce is falling back on the default “Rest of the world” zone, which doesn’t have a defined shipping method.

Also, when checking your site, it seems the default language may not be set to French. Can you confirm if your site was originally set up in French, or is it in English with only certain parts translated? This could explain why some phrases like “Flat rate” are not appearing in French.

Here’s what I recommend to get this resolved:

    1. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → General and check the Site Language under Settings → General in WordPress. If you want your site in French, set the site language to Français.
    2. Then, in WooCommerce → Settings → Shipping → Shipping Zones, add a shipping zone for your region, and inside it add a Flat rate method. Edit the method and change the title from “Flat rate” to “Frais de livraison.”

Once that’s saved, it should display correctly on both the cart and checkout pages.

Let us know how it goes!

Yeah sorry,; I changed the langage for the screenshot for you.

You mean like this : https://snipboard.io/4buRTZ.jpg

It doesn’t change anything, I think because the shipping rate are calculated on Gelato shipping costs. It’s a print on demand service.

    Hi @meeyock,

    Thanks for sharing the screenshot.

Actually, although you’re using Gelato for shipping rates, the text is coming from WooCommerce: https://share.zight.com/E0uvgn59

If you’re using something like Loco Translate or WPML, you might be able to override the “Flat rate” string globally. Search for “Flat rate” in the plugin’s string translation interface and replace it with “Frais de livraison.” Here’s a guide on using Loco.

I hope that helps. Let us know if you need anything else.

    Hello,

I’ve tried to download Loco and to check the translation : https://snipboard.io/B805SW.jpg

But I still have the same issue. I don’t know what to do 🤔

    Hi there!

Thanks for sharing the screenshot. Could you please go to your WordPress Dashboard → Updates and scroll down to the bottom of the page? There, check if you see any available translation updates. If you do, please update them and see if that resolves the issue.

    (@meeyock)

I updated them. I don’t know if it’s this action or the activation of Loco, but now I have more problems of translation : https://snipboard.io/gpSaD6.jpg

    https://snipboard.io/aP5CnA.jpg

There was no problem before for these sentences. 😥

    Hi @meeyock,

Thank you for getting back to me and for the clarification. The untranslated text may be related to the Loco Translate plugin, though I suspect it could also be caused by your theme or a plugin conflict.

To confirm nothing is interfering with your site translations, please deactivate all plugins except WooCommerce, then switch your theme to Storefront. After that, revisit the checkout page and check if any English text still appears.

If you’d prefer not to run this test on your live site, you can create a staging site instead. Once that’s set up, please share the link so we can also test and verify on our end.

    Hi @meeyock,

I totally understand your frustration, you had just one untranslated word at first, and now it feels like more things broke after trying fixes. Don’t worry, this usually happens when translation files get mixed between plugins/themes. We are here to help.

Since you noticed more English text after installing Loco Translate, it’s possible the issue is with how/where Loco is saving the overrides.

Could you please check in Loco Translate → Plugins → WooCommerce → Info tab where your translations are stored? (e.g. “Author”, “System”, or “Custom”). If they’re saved in “Author” or “System”, they can be overwritten or conflict after updates. The safest place is “Custom”.

As a test, can you temporarily disable or remove the Loco overrides and then re-download the official WooCommerce French pack? You can usually do this under Dashboard → Updates → Translations if an update is available. If you don’t see that option, another way is to briefly switch your site language to English, save, and then switch it back to Français. That will force WordPress to fetch the latest translations.

Also, since you mentioned Gelato is providing the shipping costs, do you see any translation files for the Gelato plugin itself? If the string “Flat rate” is coming through their integration, it may need translating in Gelato’s files as well.

Let us know what you find with Loco’s file location and the test without overrides, which will help us narrow this down further.

    (@meeyock)

I stored the translation in “custom” (they were in “System”)

I came back to the previous version of my site (yesterday morning) and download Loco again to do so. Most of the cart and checkout page came back to normal with the previous version.

I updated the translations through the dashboard. I think I just have these now : https://snipboard.io/l83Qvq.jpg (it came back to the first problem)

Where do I see the translation files for Gelato ? in Loco ?

    Hi @meeyock,

Great job! It’s good to hear that moving the translations to “Custom” and restoring your site brought most of the checkout/cart page back to normal 🙌. So now we’re only left with the original “Flat rate” issue.

To check if Gelato is responsible for that string, you can go to Loco Translate → Plugins and look for an entry for the Gelato plugin. If it’s listed, open it and use the search box to look for “Flat rate” (or other shipping-related terms).

If the Gelato plugin doesn’t appear in Loco, it means it doesn’t provide its own translation template, in which case the string should still be coming from WooCommerce itself. You can also try searching “Flat rate” again inside the WooCommerce translation in Loco (sometimes it shows under slightly different contexts/domains).

Please let us know if you see Gelato in the list of plugins inside Loco, and whether “Flat rate” appears there or only under WooCommerce. This will help us pinpoint where it needs to be translated.

    Hello,

in Loco I found “Gelato Integration for WooCommerce” but inside I don’t have the same file than the others. And I have this message : https://snipboard.io/FIxwgB.jpg

And there’s no mention of “Flat rate”.

And I have traduction issues with the “pop-up” when you hover over the cart, as shown : https://snipboard.io/l83Qvq.jpg

    Hi there!

Thank you for sharing the screenshot. I can see the following error: “Translation set not known in Gelato Integration for WooCommerce.

    • This means that Loco Translate cannot find a valid “translation set” (language pack) for the Gelato Integration for WooCommerce plugin.

However, I tried to replicate the issue on my test site, but I wasn’t able to reproduce it. Everything appears fine on my end, as shown in this screenshot: https://go.screenpal.com/watch/cTQj1Ano0gY

From your screenshot, it looks like you are using a third-party theme. Could you please activate a default theme such as Storefront, keep only WooCommerce active, and then share the system status report from your staging site again?

Also, please remove the password protection from the staging site so that we can access it.
I’m asking this because, on my end, all text are also appears translated into French when I hover over the cart, as shown here: https://go.screenpal.com/watch/cTQj1kno0gL
