    Hi,

My business partner and I both own and look after a number of websites we have created. I installed Google Site Kit to one of our websites and set up GA4 and Google Search Console connecting it to my gmail account like I have for all our other sites and then added my business partner as an owner as well. It has since transpired that a web dev we used a while ago already set up GA4 on the website and connected it to my business partner’s gmail account but failed to add me for visibility. To this end we now have 2 GA4 connections to the website, one connected to GSC and one not.

Can you please advise on our best next course of action? Is there a problem having 2 GA4 connections on the same website or could we leave them as is? Are we double counting? Will both even work?

Apologies for all the questions, any and all advice would be greatly apprecited,

    Jen.

Thanks for reaching out @jenpen2012. If you have two different Google Analytics snippets firing for each visit to your site, they shouldn’t interfere with each other, however, if you have event tracking or other features set up, you may with to check to ensure they are against your preferred property.

Depending on the access level of your business partner, they may be able to grant you access.

What you may wish to do, is to decide on what property you do with to connect within Site Kit, and if you wish, remove any non-Site Kit placed snippet. Before doing so, check your site with the tagassistant.google.com service to ensure both properties are firing at present. You won’t be able to migrate data from one to the other, so you may just need to decide with your business partner which one to use going forward, and ask them to set up Analytics within Site Kit if they have access to the property that you don’t, unless of course they can grant you access.

If you wish for me to check that both Google Analytics properties are firing at present, feel free to share your Site Health information privately via this form, and do let me know if you have any further questions on this. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing @jenpen2012. I checked your site and indeed I can see two Google Analytics tags firing for my page visit. You can check this yourself using the tagassistant.google.com service, see below summary:
    – Measurement ID G-2*****JRPF – screenshot.
    – Measurement ID G-V*****LM35 – screenshot

It’s no issue to have both measurement ID’s recording site visits, so it’s up to you how you wish to proceed. You can remove one if you wish. If you need help with this let me know. The second measurement ID seems to be from a manually inserted snippet on your site (source).

Let me know if you have any questions with the above. Thank you.
