Failed to generate Critical CSS
Hmm, looks like something went wrong. We’re still seeing an unexpected error. Please reach out to our support to get help.
Have been getting this CSS error. Has to be the plugin as I’ve done literally nothing to my site. While I’m here, why is the CSS generator so slow when it is working? It takes over an hour to generate my CSS.

I’ve been getting the same.
When I click “See error message” it comes up with:
I’m a teapot
Same problem. “See error message” produces
Internal Server Error
Just updated the Critical CSS a couple of days ago. Might be related to the most recent Jetpack update?

Hi any movement on this issue?
Hi @damax83,

Please stay tuned!Thanks
Hi @damax83,
Could you please check for any errors in your browser’s console while attempting to regenerate Critical CSS using Jetpack Boost? Here’s how to do it:
- Go to Jetpack → Boost in your WordPress dashboard.
- Open your browser’s console. If you’re using Chrome, press
Ctrl + Shift + Jon Windows/Linux orCmd + Option + Jon Mac. - Ensure the Critical CSS feature is active, then press ‘Regenerate’ and observe.
If any errors pop up in the console, kindly capture a screenshot. You can use tools like Snipboard (https://snipboard.io/) or Imgur (https://imgur.com) to snapshot and share the image. Please paste the screenshot link in your response.
We appreciate your cooperation!
Hey yeah there is an error. I’m blocking Jatpack from running somehow but I am not entirely sure why or how.

Hi @damax83,
Thank you for the screenshot. Now, can you please try one more thing? Please deactivate the plugins, all of them except Jetpack Boost, then navigate to Jetpack > Boost, ensure the Critical CSS feature is enalbed and click the “Regenerate” button to see how it goes (screenshot: https://d.pr/i/7fzpW4).
Looking forward to hearing back from you.
It is a live shop website, I can’t disable all of the plugins. Nothing would work.
Hi @damax83,
I realize that disabling all plugins on a live site isn’t ideal. How about deactivating the plugins one at a time and then using the “Regenerate” button in Jetpack → Boost to try regenerating the Critical CSS after each change? Alternatively, if you can set up a clone of your site and provide us with access, we can investigate this more thoroughly. For this option, you can reach out to us privately using the contact form.
Let me know how would you like to proceed so we can assist further.
Hi situation has resolved itself. I guess a plugin update somewhere fixed things. I can now re-generate CSS and you can close this thread.
Ok, good to know! Thank you for the update. Please post again if anything else comes up!
