Failure
-
Although I admire the services of Google and how smoothly they work, the whole Google Analytics > WP situation is an utter failure and the mothership needs to consider seriously about something new, and better. I have used this plugin in the past, sometimes worked, and some did not. On this last site I did, the plugin was straight-up refusing to connect with my Analytics account. Connection error. I tried the second suggested plugin by Google, MonsterInsight, which really slowed down my admin panel, on a site hosted on Virtuozzo cloud/environment, with CDN, Redis, and all the (speed) goodies. I had crazy WP panel speeds before I make the mistake to try Google’s suggestions. All this, because I was too lazy to add the analytics script on the <head> area through PHP. In any case, back to “Site Kit”, MonsterInsight connected instantly, so it wasn’t some server-side problem on my end. Although I deleted it and I rolled over to a backup to clean my site of all this (unnecessary to me) code. Seems like a Site Kit problem. I am not willing to troubleshoot it, I just wanted to say my piece.
The moral of the story, learn to edit the WP code yourself and add the (small) analytics script. It’s very easy to learn, and you will save yourself a lot of headaches. If you just wanna track visits and nothing more, don’t go down this rabbit hole.
