Hi! I’ve been researching and can see that on sitemaps with over 100 links, memory usage goes WAY up and actually prevents the page from loading. I didn’t see any definitive answers. Yoast version 19.6.1.

We had our server support team do some extensive research and determined that it’s only a sitemap issue, the rest of Yoast works great.

    1) We deactivated all plugins except for Yoast and a default theme – the resource issue persisted.

    2) We installed Yoast helper – setting maximum entries to 100 allowed the page to load, as soon as we went to 101, it crashed.

    3) The issue temporarily went away by disabled SEMRUSH integration at Yoast > Intergrations but unfortunately, the resource issue still returned a short bit after.

It seems the only fix is to limit the maximum entries per sitemap to 100.

We use Flywheel for our hosting so it’s definitely not a cheaper/under-resourced host (we are also on the new cloud server).

Just wonder has there been any more information regarding this found and any permanent fix or just to limit entries?

Looking forward to hearing back, thank you!

  • Hi there,

    Thanks for reaching out!

I understand you’re having trouble with the Yoast sitemaps. If setting maximum entries to 100 works, this is often resource-related. Have you tried increasing the PHP memory to see if it resolves the issue? You may get in touch with Flywheel on how to increase it.
