Auto Sorting of Date

The auto sorting (Select Sorting Method > By Column) of the date field doesn’t work well.

The system only sorted the first 2 numbers (which is my date), instead of understanding that there are also months and years in the date field.

The sorting method should include the ability to read dates instead of alphabetical and numerical values only.

Or are there any other settings for the date field sorting I am missing out?
