    Hello,
I am getting broken links like this one https://www.eco-reizen.nl/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php/page/2/
When I read the status it says: “400 Bad Request” and “Request headers
    ================
    GET /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php/page/8/ HTTP/1.1”

My suspicion is that an element in my page builder is responsible, but their help desk cannot trace the cause. It’s a friendly but so far fruitless discussion.

Since I am not a professional/expert web designer, I have only a basic understanding of WordPress and no expertise in Ajax>

    My questions are:
    1. What does this broken link signal mean? (Everything seems to work fine).
    2. Is it a problem that should be solved?
    3. How can I trace the cause of this broken link?
    4. How can I solve it?

Additional information: I deleted the specific page with the ‘suspicious’ page builder widget and the broken link disappeared after a fresh scan. I made a new test page with the same widget and the broken link signal came back. In my simple logic this means that it has something to with that widget, but how?

    Please educate me…

    Kind regards,

    Eric de Jong

    Hello @emdejong,

400 Bad Request response status code indicates that the server cannot or will not process the request due to something that is perceived to be a client error (for example, malformed request syntax, invalid request message framing, or deceptive request routing).

Would you mind telling us what builder you are using and which widget causing this issue? We can check it closer.

Honestly, this is something that can be ignored. Since this is an internal link and doesn’t show anywhere on the front end it won’t be an issue for your visitors.

    kind regards,

    Dear Kasia or colleague,
    Thanks for your reaction.
I am using Elementor, Elementor Pro and the ‘Premium Addons for Elementor’ plugin.
The widget I am using is Premium Blog from the ‘Premium Addons for Elementor’ plugin.
I tried to replicate this issue on another website that I solely use for testing. The ‘clean’ test (without the widget) gives zero broken links. After using the widget without pagination, there are zero broken links, but as soon as I add pagination to the blog/archive page, the same type of broken links appear.

My simple conclusion is that it has something to do with the pagination function of the Premium Blog widget. People from Leap13.com (the producers of Premium Addons for Elementor) told me that the pagination function of the widget does not use Ajax.

Anyway, you made me happy by telling me that I can neglect these broken links.

    Kind regards,
    Eric

    Hi @emdejong

    Thanks for response!

I don’t have access to these premium add-ons, unfortunately, to test it on my end but based on the description of the issue (and what Leap13 told you) it seems to be more of a “coincidental glitch” rather than a real issue.

To be specific, I think that there’s “something” in that widget code that sort of “fools” Broken Link Checker to detect URL in a wrong way; very likely it’s just that there’s a “relative part” of the path used only (so just /page/2) and some dynamically generated part.

But one way or another, such URL wouldn’t be anything used directly on front-end for 3rd-party (guest) visitors in a way that could “hurt” the site so yes – as my colleague already mentioned you can safely ignore that (you can also set it as “not broken” on broken links list).

    Best regards,
    Adam

Thanks very much for your clear and detailed answer.
    Kind regards,

This is REALLY interesting because I have been getting a pile of those errors in our SEMRUSH reports every week. It’s been frustrating because for the life of me, I cannot find anything WRONG with the blog widget.

We also use the Premium add-ons widget with elementor pro. I am thinking I need to use a different blog widget.

I am happy to know that we can safely “ignore” those, but I don’t like seeing those little flags in the report.

Thank you for the original post, NOW I have at least an idea what the culprit is!

    cheers
