    Hello,

I tried to connect my website to google analytics but got the error message as follows:

Error: We’ve detected there’s already an existing Analytics tag on your site (ID UA-169253669-1), but your account doesn’t seem to have access to this Analytics property. You can either remove the existing tag and connect to a different account, or request access to this property from your team.

I did some research on the forum and found out with Tag Assistant that my website does have 2 different tags, but I don’t know how to remove one. I also tried temporarily disable all plugins but it didn’t work either. Could someone help me with this?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi there, @carol2020! Happy to take a look here.

The way that you’ll need to remove this additional tag will depend on how it’s been inserted. To help us find it, can you please share your Site Health information privately via this form so that we can try to find how that tag is being inserted?

One thing I do see is in your source code is that there is also a tag being inserted by the ExactMetrics plugin: UA-168978139-1. Is this the UA code that you’re looking to use with Site Kit?

    Thanks!

Hello Bethany and thank you for getting back to me.

I have shared the site health information through the form and yes, I believe UA-168978139-1 is the code I’m going to use. The one I’m looking to remove is UA-169253669-1.

    Thank you, @carol2020!

I think that code may be inserted in your parent theme, Flatsome. Can you please try the following steps?

    1. In the WP admin sidebar, go to Flatsome > Advanced > Global Settings > Header Scripts
    2. If you see code related to UA-169253669-1 there, delete it. If you’re not sure what to delete, you can share a screenshot and I can give you exact instructions. The forums do not support screenshot uploads, so you can share one via a link generated by Imgur or JumpShare.

    Hello Bethany,

Thank you for the instructions. Here’s a screenshot of what I see:

@carol2020 Thank you! Hmm.. so it’s not there. Let’s check your child theme:

    1. In WordPress admin, go to Appearance > Theme Editor
    2. On the right side under Theme Files, click Theme Header (header.php)
    3. Hit CTRL + F on your keyboard to search within the code there and do a search for UA-168978139-1. If you find any results, please copy and paste the code here for me.

    Hi Bethany,

I’m having trouble finding the code of header. This is what I see when I go to Appearance > Theme:

    support topic

Can you please let me know what to do?

    Thanks for checking that, @carol2020.

It looks like your site is using some custom code in the back-end of WordPress that I’m not familiar with. Unfortunately, that makes it hard for me to help you troubleshoot further here.

If you’re working with a developer, I’d recommend getting in touch with them to see if they can assist you with finding and removing this extra UA code. I’m sorry I can’t be of more assistance here.

If you do have any other questions about Site Kit, please do feel free to submit a new support topic.

That’s unfortunate to hear but thanks for your help so far.
