Inconsistent Cover Image
-
Hi there,
When I run my story through the AMP test tool and preview it, the cover image displayed is the correct one. However, on the google search result, the cover image is completely different.
How do I resolve this?

Hi Ernest,
Thanks for getting in touch. I can replicate your issue and see the different image displaying in mobile results.
It looks like the images on your site are being served via Cloudfront CDN. Can you please try refreshing or clearing cache on Cloudfront and see if that resolves the issue?
Thank you!
BethanyHi Bethany,
Thanks for getting in touch.
I’m not too sure how to do that as I have not installed any plugins for cloudfront. Could you please advice how I should go about this?
Best regards,
ErnestHi Ernest,
It appears that Cloudfront is set up at the hosting level of your site as opposed to via a plugin. Here is their documentation on “invalidating” files from cache: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonCloudFront/latest/DeveloperGuide/Invalidation.html. If you have additional questions on this, I’d suggest contacting Cloudfront support.
If you are able to clear the cache and are still seeing the incorrect image in mobile search results, just let us know and we’re happy to take another look.

Hi Bethany,
I have cleared the cache but the problem still persists.
Best regards,
ErnestThanks for doing that, Ernest. In order for us to troubleshoot further, can you please share your Site Health information as a new reply on this post? You can also share it privately via this form.
Hi Bethany,
I’ve submitted it via the form.
Thank you, Ernest!
It looks like your site is using the W3 Total Cache plugin. Can you please try clearing the cache there, as well? You may also want to configure the plugin so that it will never cache
web-storiesURLs.Keep in mind that Google reindexes approximately every 24 hours, so once you clear the cache, the image result will not change immediately. Once you’ve cleared the W3 Total Cache, can you check back on Google in 24 hours and let me know if the correct image is displaying?

Hi Bethany,
The cover photo is still not the right one.
Hi Ernest,
Thanks for the update. Just to be sure that we’re talking about the same thing, the *Cover* is different from the *Poster*.
The Cover is the first page of your story, which would be https://now.iseeit.com/web-stories/meddic-sales-process-checklist/. This is not used at all in Google search results.
The Poster is the image that is used in Google search results and is defined in the Document tab of the Stories editor, as seen in this screenshot.
Can you please confirm that you have uploaded the yellow I See It image as your Poster for the story at https://now.iseeit.com/web-stories/meddic-sales-process-checklist/?
Thank you!
Hi Bethany,
Apologies for the confusion. Yes I am referring to Poster.
If you refer to this screenshot, this is the poster image I’ve set: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wjpl_iCq4nXg7ONvBXYHf6NU2pUNvlES/view?usp=sharing
However, in google search results, another poster image is set instead: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kl25vav2pXqGYXbmD6iaF8a3XRVG5VzD/view?usp=sharing
Hi Ernest,
Thanks for the additional information and screenshots. I believe that the issue here may be that the poster image that you’ve set has a lot of burned-in text, which violates best practice guidelines.
Can you try setting a different poster that does *not* have burned-in text, and see if that helps? This story from the Google team provides some more details about posters.
Thanks!
Bethany@ernestnah As we haven’t received a response, I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues, or reopen this topic and we’d be happy to assist. Thank you!
