    Hi there

    Hoping you can help.

My GA went dead yesterday and is showing 0 visitors for today which is obviously wrong. The GA code was installed using SiteKit. I have disconnected GA from SiteKit, which didn’t do anything.

So then I deleted the SiteKit plugin and reinstalled it, which has seemed to return the UA code to the pages according to Google Tag Assistant, but I still get no read in GA Reatltime when I visit my site incognito, so it seems to still be broken?

My GA code was installed by SiteKit and had been working fine. Not clear to me why it would have suddenly stopped working?

    How to fix?

    Thanks in advance
    Jane

Thanks for reaching out. In order to troubleshoot this can you inform me of the below:

    1. After connecting the Analytics module did you since install any additional plugins with Analytics features which you’re aware of?
    2. I’m on your website now, can you access the Analytics dashboard from within Site Kit and then click on the “See full stats in Analytics” link. From there on the page you are directed to please inform me whether you see traffic for today.
    3. Please share your Site Health information. You can share privately using this form.

From inspecting your site I also noticed multiple Analytics snippets placed on your site, which is unusual. Please share your findings from the list above and we can troubleshoot further.

    Thanks for being there, James.

    1. No plugins with Analytics features that I’m aware of but it’s definitely possible some were added and then deleted. Does Yoast have analytics features? But I don’t think this changed recently. Would you like a list of current plugins?

    2. If I follow the path you say and then select today’s date and click apply I see 1 visitor (very unusual to be just one, obviously). I also see 1 visit of 20+ minutes duration if I go direct to GA.

    3. Have shared my site health info via the form

    Thanks so much

Thanks for providing an update. Your Analytics setup seems fine as placed via Site Kit from inspecting your Site Health information. The same form included the active plugins.

While the Yoast plugin you have active doesn’t feature Analytics configurations I did notice some Ezoic snippets with additional tracking code. Your “Code Snippets” plugin may also contain some Analytics snippets which you can check.

Besides the additional Analytics snippets in order to ensure your Analytics tag is firing at present please share the following:

    1. From your 1 visit yesterday can you check the location of this visit?
    2. I’m on your site at present, let me know if you can see my visit from your Analytics live reporting tool.

    Hey James

    1. Yesterday shows 2 visits, 1 from Iowa that bounced. And 1 from Ohio that lasted 21.17 minutes.

    2. Unfortunately because of timezones I was fast asleep when you were live on the site so I couldn’t check your visit in realtime. I’m in the Pacific timezone if that helps us connect.

Incidentally, in case it gives you any clues, within my Ezoic dashboard it is still recording traffic for these past few days, even while GA itself is dead. I integrated with Ezoic quite a while before this problem appeared though.

When you mention the Ezoic snippets and Code snippets… what exactly should I be doing there?

Could this have anything to do with Mailchimp? I added and then deleted a couple of Mailchimp plugins this past week.

The other thing I did recently was turn off Ezoic’s caching app.

Thanks again for your help. I appreciate it.

Thanks for the update. What Analytics property are you connected too when checking analytics.google.com? If you install the Tag Assistant Chrome Extension you’ll notice differing Universal tracking codes (Starting with UA-)

When you mention the Ezoic snippets and Code snippets… what exactly should I be doing there?

I’m curious to know whether traffic is being recorded using the Site Kit connected property – when all other UA- snippets (placed via Ezoic or manually) are temporarily removed. Other plugins or services may have features that alter the functionality or remove existing snippets, resulting in skewed or missing data.

    Hi James,

Hopefully this gives you some clues:

In GA I’m logged into UA-178021128-1.

When I visit my site with Tag Assistant enabled, this same UA comes up twice in the tag analysis but there’s also messages under “Where to Optimize” saying:

No Google Analytics HTTP responses because opted out code detected.

No Google Analytics HTTP responses because opted out code detected.

(the above error is listed twice)

Multiple installations of Global site tag (gtag.js) detected

    Add Google Analytics

Does any of the above indicate how we can fix this?

(Re removing anything placed by Ezoic, is this necessary in order to get GA functioning again? Does it get us anywhere given I obviously need the Ezoic code to be there? Ezoic’s been connected for a month and GA only went dead a few days ago, so is it likely to be the culprit?)

    Thanks muchly
    Jane

The “No Google Analytics HTTP responses because opted out code detected” notice can appear if you have the the default configurations of Site Kit applied, which doesn’t include logged in traffic. Other plugins may also have similar features.

In order to ensure your Site Kit placed Analytics code is tracking as expected please visit your website from a browser incognito window (while not logged in) once you have your other Analytics plugins temporarily deactivated. Then access that same property (UA-178021128-1) at analytics.google.com and view the real time report.

You can reactivate the additional plugins after testing. Please inform me whether you can view any statistics when visiting your site while not logged in.

I checked with Ezoic and they said:

In regards to your question, you cannot remove Ezoic’s code, but our own Google Analytics tracking should not be interfering with your own.

They took a look and think GA was stuffed up by having the WP Rocket plugin and the Ezoic site accelerator both attempt to do the “script delay” function.

Turning off the “Delay JavaScript execution” setting in WP Rocket seems to have fixed it as when I visit my site incognito it now records traffic in GA.

Very useful insights, thanks for sharing. We can keep a note of this for future reference, should other users also be impacted.

If you happen to encounter any further conflicts or have Site Kit queries be sure to get in touch.
