I have various tables set to auto update from Google sheets – all of which have been working fine.

Suddenly however there are a load that are not pulling through the correct data and instead a load of code and mess.

The links are correct and the Google sheet is fine – any ideas?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

If you are seeing a lot of “code and mess” imported, the links are not fully correct, unfortunately.

Please see https://wordpress.org/support/topic/google-sheets-import-adds-extra-columns-and-rows/#post-12336102 for more information on how the URL is supposed to look like.

    Hi Tobias

That’s what I don’t understand – the link to the CSV file is the same as it has always been but overnight there were numerous ones that stopped working. I have used the CSV link to download a spreadsheet and manually uploaded it and it was fine, but as soon as the update ran using the same link, the spreadsheet went wrong again on the site.

I even disabled the auto update plugin and then set a few up again and the issue persists.

The example above for example was coming from https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vRIXtBjdlLvIGnaKZMv-CtL75ErqAQM_w87Op_jn54qB3Thl0Vf3wRqyJWRNovDbuINMe0yRP2q9RMC/pub?output=csv on the auto update

If I use this URL to try and import and replace the corrupted file, it won’t work – but if I put the URL into a browser and download the file, then upload it, it does.

    Hi,

it looks like this URL will only return the CSV file to logged-in users, i.e. it’s not a public sharing link. To verify that, please try that URL in a “private”/”incognito” browsing tab: You will be asked to log in.
The URL must however directly return the CSV file, without asking to log in.

    Tobias

Ok – have you got any idea why this has suddenly stopped working as like I said, the same URL has been used for way over 12 months without an issue? I’m unsure how I get the link without the requirement for someone to sign in – are you able to advise?

I have 280 spreadsheets linked to the site so as you can appreciate, am looking for the quickest and easiest way to get them all back online!

    Hi,

wait, I just checked the link again, and it’s now working for me… It is directly returning a CSV file. Can you please try the manual import from that URL again?

I unpublished the file in Google sheets and then republished it but it gave me the same CSV link to use – I tried that and it worked

I also amended the privacy to people can view the file with a link rather than restricted which might also have helped. I’ll try it with the others in a while and see but hope that might have answered the issue.

    Hi,

great! That’s good to hear! I can therefore only assume that something in the Google sharing settings must have changed…

It appears that way. Three that were ‘corrupted’ have been changed on Google to be visible to view rather than private and have updated without issue, so touch wood that has resolved it. Google must have changed something their end.

    Hi,

no problem, you are very welcome! 🙂 Good to hear that this helped!

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

P.S.: In case you haven’t, please rate TablePress here in the plugin directory. Thanks!

I came here with the same problem and you already solved it. Thank you! It remains “a little” to open access to 500 Google files )))
