When in the edit post section I can not click any of the ‘edit’ links in the Publish section of the classic editor for posts.

The problem occurs for new posts and editing existing posts.

This includes status, visibility and scheduled date.

The problem does not occur in block editor.

Thanks in advance for any advise.

  • Can you try when using the Health Check plugin in Troubleshoot mode? It could be a Javascript error in a plugin, causing the editor Javascript to not be run. The Troubleshoot mode disables plugins for your user only, so you can isolate it without affecting visitors to your site.

    Hello,

Thank you for the reply. I have tried using Health Check as suggested. When in Troubleshoot mode the issue is fixed – even with every plugin enabled.

I believe it may have something to to with my theme as when in troubleshoot mode the theme defaults back to the ‘Twenty Twenty’ theme from the ‘Multi Child’ theme which I use.

Hi I just had a quick read of that.

When I open a post these are the error that pops up when inspecting the page:

Apparently your theme is using some of the very old jQuery functions. The 5.5 release removed the jquery-migrate library, so now they are showing errors.
You can use the Jquery migrate Helper plugin to restore it while you get the theme fixed or switch themes. This should be temporary, because there will be a new migrate helper in WP 5.6, for the newer jQuery. The old functions are really old, and should be changed.

As suggested I have installed the jQuery plugin as a temporary fix and it worked a treat.
I will notify the theme developer that the jQuery functions need updating and consider using a different theme.

Thank you very much for your help Joy, all the best!

    Hi frederikboving

Sorry to hear that! I don’t understand code enough to give you any advise on those errors.

Disabling plugins and returning to 2020 template is the first thing I would have done.
The site health plugin that Joy suggested is also very useful.

    Cheers
