WhatsApp will use the site icon if no og:image tag is set. You don’t currently have anything setting og:image tags, but most plugins which do so will set the featured image as the og:image tag.

If Jetpack’s sharing buttons https://jetpack.com/support/sharing/ or Publicize https://jetpack.com/support/publicize/ modules are active, Jetpack should add open graph tags automatically.

I activated Publicize, even though I did not connect to any social media platform, and it worked. The featured image now shows up in WhatsApp shares. Amazing. THANK YOU, James!
