Site Kit dashboard not loading in WordPress
-
I installed the Site Kit plugin and followed all instructions after activating. (signing into google, allowing permissions, etc) and it showed me the “Congratulations” screen, and then goes back to step one again.
I already added “https” to my wordpress url and site address in Settings>General.
Still no joy. Continually asks me to sign in and repeating the above process doesn’t change anything.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

@tdustrude thanks for opening a new topic and for doing the check in your settings. Could you try the following in an incognito browser:
1) Reset Site Kit if you have access (Site Kit > Settings > Admin Settings > Reset Site Kit)
2) Delete and reinstall Site Kit
3) Proceed with the setup processPlease let me know if you’re able to get through.
I am unable to reset as the only screen that shows is the “Sign in with Google to Configure…” screen.
But I did open a new incognito window, deactivate, delete and reinstall.
Still no luck. Same problem as before – it keeps returning to the sign in with Google screen.
Edit: Actually I was able to click on reset. Didn’t see that at first, but it’s right there on the first screen. So, I did the entire incognito process again, just like above and still no luck.
Thanks-

@tdustrude You may be encountering the same issue as described in the GitHub issue below:
https://github.com/google/site-kit-wp/issues/1113Can you inform me of the following:
– Have you been able to setup Site Kit previously?
– Do you have any other websites you can test setup with, from the same hosting plan?
– Are you able to check for any Web Application Firewall or ModSecurity rules with your current hosting provider?Hi @jamesosborne @reneesoffice,
I do have the same issue as @tdustrude.
And I followed @reneesoffice ‘s solution (it showed me the “Congratulations” screen)
but it still didn’t work. 🙁
Just as before – an infinite loop to sign in….
What can I do for it?– I had been able to setup sit kit previously.
– No, I only have one website.
– I contacted my hosting provider before writing this message.thank you!

Update:
I check the inspect found that I got an error as :
Unchecked runtime.lastError: The message port closed before a response was received.and after following the instruction this is what I got:
{ "isSiteKitConnected": true, "isResettable": true, "isAuthenticated": true, "requiredScopes": [ "openid", "https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.profile", "https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.email", "https://www.googleapis.com/auth/siteverification", "https://www.googleapis.com/auth/webmasters" ], "grantedScopes": [ "email", "profile", "https://www.googleapis.com/auth/webmasters", "https://www.googleapis.com/auth/siteverification", "openid", "https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.profile", "https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.email" ], "needReauthenticate": false, "isVerified": false, "isFirstAdmin": false, "hasSearchConsoleProperty": false, "showModuleSetupWizard": null, "moduleToSetup": "" }@jamesosborne ,
I have not been able to set up Site Kit previously
I just tried installing it on another site of mine on the same shared webhosting, but I could not activate it because of this fatal error:Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /home1/fhupdate/public_html/wp-content/plugins/google-site-kit/google-site-kit.php on line 97
I don’t know of any Web Application Firewall or ModSecurity rules with my current hosting provider. I will check on that next.
Also – I just noticed a new thing in my Dashboard called Exact Metrics and it apparently can show reports and stuff but first I need to connect to it with its launch wizard (which I haven’t done yet).
Does this have something to do with Site Kit or why Site Kit isn’t working?
@tdustrude Thanks for the update. Exact Metrics is another WordPress plugin which provides Analytics integration. It’s independent to Site Kit.
As you’re encountering errors on the other site also it may indicate the mentioned hosting environment issue. I can keep you updated on that GitHub issue as soon as I have an update.
@tdustrude Just following up with you as we’ve made some progress on this issue. Can you attempt setup once more with the latest version of Site Kit (v1.4)?
It would be great to hear whether you’re able to get connected after trying. And thanks for the patience so far.
Already had 1.4, but I reset, deleted and reinstalled.
Still no joy – It tells me congratulations, then goes back to start its infinite loop again
@tdustrude really appreciate the update. Quick question: did you go through the setup process before you updated the URL address values under Settings > General to
https://? Did you need to update both values?Hmmmm. I don’t remember if I updated the URLs first or did setup first.
However, the URLs were corrected before subsequent attempts, including clicking RESET, and uninstalling/reinstalling/setting up the plugin.
Yes I updated both URLs from http to https.
@tdustrude really appreciate the update. What you could be experiencing is this issue that we’re working on as a high priority. It occurs when the URLs are updated after the setup process has been run. Site Kit holds on to the old URL format and this can cause setup issues. We’ll update you when this fix is released to see if this resolves it for you. Thanks for your patience and updates!
@tdustrude we released the fix in version 1.5.0. Could you do the following:
1) Update the plugin to the latest version 1.5.0
2) Reset Site Kit
3) Proceed with the setup processLet us know if you are successfully connected.
If you continue to experience an issue, please provide your Site Health info (we’ve added a new section for Site Kit specifically that will help us troubleshoot further).
@tdustrude did you have a chance to update to the latest version?
Hi Renee. No, I’ve not had a chance yet. Crazy past couple of weeks. I might be able to get on it next week and I’ll let you know if I do.
Thanks –
