1-have you looked in your WP CONTENT folder in your webhosting file manager or via FTP to see if the plugins are still present in the folder?
2-do you have a backup copy of your database and files in case you need to replace?
3-is there any other user with ADMIN permissions that could have deleted the plugin(s) via webhosting or WordPress dashboard?
4-have you scanned for malware?

1. Yes, it’s there. And it is working – I just can’t update anything. I see them on the Plugins list on my dashboard, just not in the left column where I can access the content.
2. I just backed up the site last week.
3. There are other users, but they don’t have full admin access and don’t go into that (they need to come to me for anything like that)

are you saying the the plugins are in the WP Content folder and they are activated but not usable?
maybe try installing the health check plugin to troubleshoot possible plugin conflict.

what are the names of the plugins that you “cannot access the content”?

I installed it, and like the other plugins, it’s not showing up on the sidebar, so I can’t even run it…

The plugins are there. They work. They just don’t show up on the sidebar of the admin dashboard (on the left) so I can’t make any edits to things…

Can you use Health Check to disable plugins in different order, to see if one is affecting the menus?
I would disable all, then add the ones you couldn’t see to check if they show up when alone. If so, add others to see when they disappear.

I disabled all plugins through health check and re-enabled them one at a time. When they were all active, the “missing” plugins showed up. When I went back to regular mode, they disappeared again. I am beginning to think it has to do with our theme, because a number of menu items reappeared when I was in regular mode that weren’t there in health check mode.
